I've become such a cowboy scrooge, anyone else get irritated at the annual pump up?

My buddy is a great guy but he is so pumped up on the Cowboys, it strikes me as delusional. As many of you know, I had some hope for Garrett but last years shit coaching job killed that for me so I dont have any faith in jerri and his minions to compete against the best in the league. They appear to have made some improvements in some areas and perhaps there is a glimmer of hope that Stephen will be different than jerri but I just can't muster up any excitement for each new season after 20 years of jerris bullshit.

If Romo stays healthy, they should have a chance in any game but when and if they get to the playoffs, I just dont have faith in the organization and coaches to compete against their peers at that level. To me, its going to rest on the players shoulders to rise above the limitations of the coaches and organization and that's a tall order imo.

Here's my buddy's annual pump up, why does this irritate me so much?

I feel like I've read this type of post every year and then something similar with each player they sign.

Hardy is gonna rip up the league, Randy Gregory wont get back on the doobie because they know how to manage players like this, Claiborne is the next Deion, Our best lineman is going against a rookie and will crush this week, Michaels isn't being used in Seattle and is rested and ready to crush behind "the best line in the league", so and so isn't that injured and will be ready to kick ass on Sunday, etc, etc only to flop or disappear on game day or during the season.

The newest claims are that Zeke is gonna rip up the league and be rookie of the year behind the O-line and Jaylon Smith will surprise everyone because Dallas has "inside information"

forgive me if I'm a little dubious, I've heard this type of stuff too many times to the point its like the little boy who cried "wolf" but in our case the little boy is jerri and he loves to cry "championship".

Oh, and lol at the rest of the league quaking in their boots at the thought of Stephen taking over. Hopefully Stephen proves to be worthy of that fear but I'd say, at best, they're just not laughing as hard as they are accustomed to.

The great o line rebuilding thing is a myth.

Tyron Smith was always the plan that year, so they get credit for that. They were on him early and even turned down a really good offer from Jacksonville (to trade up for Blaine Gabbert) because they didn't want to risk losing him.

Travis Frederick was not the "plan". The Cowboys panicked and traded down half a round and they had no players left with a 1st round grade. They admitted Frederick had a second round grade on him. They threw out their annual line of how so-and-so was right about to draft him so they had to took him higher than they wanted. Good player, but again, that was not the plan at all. That's the year the scouts and Ciskowski wanted Floyd and they traded down with San Francisco, not getting enough value in the trade.

Zack Martin was not the "plan". The Cowboys wanted Anthony Barr, Aaron Donald, and Ryan Shazier. Martin was the team's highest player on board and then Jerry stepped in and tried to force Manziel. Stephen fought him off and they took the BPA on their board. Wasn't the plan, just made the most out of a situation where your top 3 targets are gone. Stephen gets credit for fighting off Jerry but no credit for any claim that he was methodically building the offensive line.

La'el Collins was a freak accident. We would not have drafted him in the 1st round that year. The team wanted Shaq Thomspon first and Byron Jones second. Now maybe they never expected him to slide to their pick in the late 1st, but they had no intent of drafting another O Lineman. Bizarre circumstances led to Collins going completely undrafted and we swooped in with a fully-guaranteed contract, unheard of for an UDFA, and a great strategy.

I'm happy that it all worked out this way and I'll give them credit for making the decisions they did when they presented themselves, but any talk of a this organized, thought-out plan of rebuilding the offensive line is pure fantasy.

Collins role keeps changing. First he is supposed to be a big double-teamed 1tech. Then he is the ideal 3 tech that Crawford is supposed to be. Then it's he can play either but probably 3. Thornton is the same: assumed to be a 3 but probably help McClain with 1 tech????

Collins is a 3Tech.
Crawford was an Anchor (strong side DE) in college who they have converted to 3Tech.
Thornton is a 1Tech.

They all have position flex IMO Collins is best at 3, Crawford is best at 3, and Thornton is best at 1. Tapper is tougher to call.

I think Marinelli really looks for that position flex because of the guys we have:

Dez still isn't 100% and hasn't been medically cleared.

He will probably miss camp again

Then be out of shape or at least not in the proper shape to start the season, he will miss pre season and the rest of the shit.

So his performance will be subpar just like last year at the start of the season from not being with the team for the preseason

Hopefully this time he can at least keep from getting injured again

I expect him to get back to form. I just doubt it will happen till late this season barring another injury

The single bright spot this entire off season is the drafting of EZE. if it wasn't for that pick up we would be in the same exact place we were this time last year. Actually we would be worse off this year because we have no pass rush. Without EZE we would likely go 4-12 again or worse.

Hopefully he can help keep Romo off his back with his blocking

For a few years I think Jason's propaganda was the 2TE offense like "the Patriots". Romo, who Parcells felt could make positive yards with his feet, was now talking about being like Brady in the pocket. But the Patriots game plan differently for each team and change their offense to an entirely different strategy and philosophy every week. My hunch is that Jason could not convince Jerry that he was building a Patriots team because it would require much more flexibility and planning than he is capable.

Ever since the Dallas Offense got spanked by the Seahawks, when Rob Ryan was DC, and Jerry fired Rob citing that game as a reason (even though it was the Jason's offense that got manhandled), there has been this transferrence of the emulation from the Patriots to the Seahawks. Christine Michael, Rod Smith, Robert Turbin.
I think Dak Prescott is supposed to eventually be Russell Wilson and playing the part of Marshawn Lynch is the running back in the draft who was compared to Lynch and that is Elliot.

Dallas changd their defense to that 4-3 Under based on the Seahawks and they are still trying to toughen their defensive line and LBs - which is not bad, but if your offense does not score points, what's the use?

Jason is going to run into the wall again with the Seahawk copy as well because their modified WCO is almost as flexible as the Patriots and Jason's "system" does not change.

Garrett's presence is why an excellent rushing game is key. He needs it as much as Romo.
