Cowboys' grades

Cassel crumbles: Down

Matt Cassel had the resume and experience to keep the Cowboys competitive after Tony Romo went down. That's why his performance is so perplexing. Cassel got worse the more time he got in this offense. He was dreadful Saturday, completing just 3-of-8 passes for 37 yards with a bizarre, pop-up interception after he almost fell down and a 19-yard sack.

Down and out: Down

The Cowboys struggles on third down have reached epic proportions. Dallas was 2-of-11 on third down Saturday night, failing to pick up its initial third-down conversion until the final play of the third quarter. The offense is an unheard of 4-of-31 on third down over the last three games, which comes out to 12.9 percent.

One bad turn: Down

Dallas once again showed it is one of the league's most generous teams. The Cowboys suffered through another miserable evening with four turnovers _ three interceptions by Kellen Moore and one by Matt Cassel. The Cowboys have turned the ball over 27 times this season, tying them with Indianapolis for the most in the NFL.

Catch David Moore on The Ticket (KTCK-AM 1310 and 96.7 FM) three days a week with The Musers (Mon-Wed-Fri) at 9:35 a.m. and twice a week (Tues-Fri) with The Hardline at 4:15 p.m. during the regular season.

It is mind numbing how bad this offense is. And I'm sorry... it's not all on the QB.

LOL

Remember there were a lot of people saying we should have traded for this guy (Ball):

He was a second round pick in the draft. A lot of people were wrong on him. Not sure what his deal is.

Isn't Melvin Gordon having a disappointing year too? Could it be that Wisconsin running backs just don't translate (for whatever reason) in the NFL?

Kind of like Florida QB's back in the day. Post gaudy stats in college then become nothings in the NFL.

Yeah its bizarre with the Wisconsin RB's. They put up huge numbers, look good doing it and some even have pretty ideal measurables, but it seems like they all flame out in the NFL.

I think Wisky's OL was just so good that, well, anyone could run behind that line. :awkward

But I never thought that much of Ball... Seemed kind of short and heavy and slow, almost like another Ron Dayne. I did think Gordon would be better though.

Edit, dammit, Omega beat me to it...

It DOES matter some where they wind up. But that said, clearly I was wrong about Gurley - I let that big ole meany looking knee scar spook me. Jury is still out on both him and Gordon though, it's just their first season.

Wisconsins O-line seems to translate fairly well to the NFL. Maybe the issue is really this xwalker syllogism that misses a Callahan variable but may apply to the mystery of Wisconsin RBs image.jpg

Yikes, we might win @ Buffalo next week. fucking jailbreak every time Taylor tries to pass, and their D has given up.

Living in LA and with the probability of the Rams coming here next year I am looking forward to seeing Gurley in play in person

I'll be rooting for the Rams unless they play the Cowboys or the Seahawks. That's if they do actually move here next season.

I've been trying to catch some of the Rams games when I get a chance and Gurley has really impressed me. It would have been nice to see what he could have done in his rookie season had he started from game one!

So 21-0 up there? What the heck is going on in that game? I thought the one thing Buffalo had was a defense.

Side note, looked at the weather forecast and they have to be setting records for temps up there. Looks like the 40s next week. I was hoping for a blizzard -- we never play in those.

That Rams team has four of my fellow college alums playing in that DL.
