Editing to add I don't think it will happen largely for the reason you gave. Jerry isn't going to trade up for that high-profile a player and not play him.

I did try to look up what would happen if you made Romo a post-June 1 cut *next year* but I don't see those numbers.

I think the marketing possibilities would be enough for Jerry to do it.

Since all he cares about is winning (money away from average, hard-working Cowboy fans).

I've said all offseason I think if they draft a QB in the first or second round its because they know Romo is about done due to his back.

I am sure if this is the case, they'll be talking to Romo beforehand to explain their reasoning.

If Romo is really 100%, there are no marketing possibilities other than maybe generating some extra ticket sales for preseason games.

If they draft Manziel (or any other QB in the first rd, maybe even second rd) its because Romo's back is a huge concern and they think he's almost done.

If Manziel never plays, how many jersey sales do you think he's really gonna generate? You think Manziel bobbleheads are gonna fly out of stores if he is buried behind a healthy Romo for two or three years?

If they think Romo is fine, Manziel wouldn't be getting picked. The only reason to pick the guy is if you think Romo is almost done, in which case it isn't about "marketing", its about making a smart decision for the future. (which we rarely do)

Picking Manziel at 16 would be a genius move by Jerry. Not only putting millions of dollars instantly into his pocket but having the foresight to draft a franchise QB in advance. I don’t think drafting a QB proves the Cowboys have secret concerns about Romo’s back. It’s a back injury, there should be concern.

I think Romo would handle it perfectly. They guy has all the money he will ever need. A gorgeous wife and healthy kids. He has achieved more success in the NFL than anyone could have expected from an undrafted free agent. I think Romo is very content in his life.
