After all the moves made by the Cowboys the last two weeks, the organization is roughly $175,000 under the salary cap as free agency begins Tuesday afternoon.

So what does that mean?

The Cowboys basically can't do anything in free agency or sign their draft picks. So more financial moves are needed. :lol

The team most likely will work out a new deal with quarterback Tony Romo and quite possibly with defensive end Anthony Spencer, who is franchised for $10.6 million.

The NFL has set the salary cap at $123 million, but the Cowboys -- after a $5 million penalty administrated by the league for Miles Austin's contract during the uncapped season and $2 million carried over from the 2012 season -- will have their cap set at $120 million for 2013.

One of the moves the Cowboys can make won't take effect until later this offseason, as the Cowboys can save $7 million if they decide to release tackle Doug Free as a post June 1 cut.

A recap of some moves:

•The Cowboys saved $3 million by cutting inside linebacker Dan Connor.

•The Cowboys saved $7.8 million by restructuring the deals of defensive tackle Jay Ratliff, cornerback Orlando Scandrick and guard Mackenzy Bernadeau.

•Tight end Jason Witten's restructured deal saved nearly $3.65 million.

•A clause in cornerback Brandon Carr's contract lowered his cap number for 2013 and saved $10.8 million.

•The Cowboys saved $4 million in cap space by restructuring defensive end DeMarcus Ware's contract.

•Wide receiver Miles Austin's restructured deal provided $3 million in savings.

•Offensive linemen Mackenzy Bernadeau and Ryan Cook also cleared cap space by reworking their deals.

Serious question...

And I'm not rooting for this at all. I want to win a Super Bowl in the worst way.

But what happens if we end up 8-8 again next year?

We saved $30+ million on these moves and are still barely under the cap?

So I guess that means our outlay for 2013 before these deals was $150 million? How the fuck do you get in that position in the first place?

Our front office runs finances like the government.

What a clusterfuck.

We shuffle around some assistant coaches, cut a few JAG vets, point out how we only lost by 11 to the eventual Superbowl champs, and we're all good?

Some of next years cap is taken by this year's money, and some of last year's money is devoted to this year's cap

We thank god that Jerry has improved as a GM and hope their is some catalysts for the next step before senility sets in.

Before parcels he was a 5-11 kind of guy, now he knows how to build 8-8 teams.

Other then that, settle in like it is 2001 and be thankful we don't have to watch 5-11 as we bitterlly have our hopes crushed every year like we are the god damn redskins!

Free agency isn't going to save this franchise anyway

Not having any money at the moment isn't going to make or break anything

What we do in the draft will determine how well this season goes

No it won't. You get 2, maybe 3 significant contributors a year from a draft class. That is if you draft well.

Precisely...adding 2 to 3 starters through the draft would pay major dividends

Signing scrubs like we typically sign doesn't amount to shit

2-3 starters? We got 4 starters once and it set us up for years, so yea 2-3 starters would be a big boon to this currently average team.

We won 3 super bowls once too ya know?

Expecting this FO to bring in an influx of college talent to boost our fortunes is seriously misguided.

Fvck you, no one is expecting it, I am just saying that if they actually did that it would raise us a level above a perinnial 8-8 team

A 10-6, 11-5 team with a shot in the playoffs would be worth watching, even if we are not a Super Bowl contender.

It would also give me hope that we could add 2-3 the next year and actually be a contender. Teams that remain in top always managed to string a few good drafts together. Could you imagine if jerry followed up his one good draft with something, anything?

I was saying last year that pushing money was stupid.

This team is horribly run. All you have to do is watch other teams a little and the flaws of this group become apparent.
