Says who? Where did this come from?

Did you read or watch the news when Garrett started making the staffing decisions?

Ryan was the last to interview because Cleveland was holding onto him until they made their HC decision.

Garrett wanted Vic Fangio, Greg Manusky and 1 or 2 others, but all those guys chose other jobs. Afterward they finally interviewed Ryan, who had few options himself. There were some reports that Reid talked about possibly hiring Ryan, but he ended up here instead.

Fangio also noted later that had Harbaugh decided to stay at Stanford, he would have took the DC job here.

Another darkhorse name to consider for DC, Browns DC Dick Jauron.

Jones is probably leaning on Mike Holmgren, and Holmgren really likes Jauron.

I think Gregg Williams (assuming he is reinstated) might be another name that could be considered.

That has always been true.

Fangio was the guy Garrett wanted all along. Fangio and manusky passed on Dallas. The eagles passed on Ryan.

We got Ryan.

The other one he badly wanted (according to multiple reports) was Mike Nolan from Miami. Basically we were set to be getting most of their defensive staff, including Todd Bowles and a couple others had the Dolphins owner followed through on firing Tony Sparano that yr, but he backed out and they kept their staff in tact.

So shitty. They wasted that next season with Sparano as a lame duck. We are in the exact same situation now. Every loss will just magnify the chaotic circus.

I guess if Garrett is back (still a big if IMO) then we can always hope the new offensive and defensive coordinators do a great job, and that as a team we stay healthy and perhaps overcome other "shortcomings"

Garrett isnt keeping all his responsibbility, and you have no idea whether his pay level is staying the same or not. None of us do. It very well could be that Jones told him the only way he stays is if he makes wholesale staff changes (which were necessary) and took a paycut.
come on David. He's not taking a paycut. I don't have to be in the room during the meeting to know that if he stays on as HC that he's not taking a pay cut.

You dont know this. Some of his pay level might have been tied to the amount of authority/responsibility he had.

Besides what is he going to say if Jones wants to cut his pay? "No, because I got all sorts of other high paying alternatives out there"

And if the Cowboys had listened to Ryan, we would have JJ Watt.

And JJ Watt would probably be called a bust right now had he come here. Would probably be lucky to have 5 or 6 sacks in two seasons of Rob's defense

Wasn't aware..fuck

During one of the games last year babe started talking in depth about how Ryan was the emergency guy and started naming names and I swear brad must have told him to cool it, cause there was a pause and then he just went back to the game.

Babe implied of the available guys it was fangio who he targeted and if I remember correctly said he never really had an interview.

If I get a chance one day I will search for that but it's a needle in a haystack until I relisten to the whole games at some point.

Dont understand what some of you are looking at that think this defense was "good"

This is what happens when you watch the same garbage defense every week for several years.

The injuries make for nice excuse talk, but the fact is the guy didnt have a good defense even when he had everybody out there. It wasnt good last year, and it wasnt good this year.

Most stats are for losers, but the stats that matter (like QB hits, passes defensed, turnovers, 3rd down conv %) we stunk at, and have for quite some time.

They were top 10 in yards allowed for most of the first half. They led the league in three and outs until late in the year.

Not saying they were all world by any means. But on the list of most shitty to least shitty units on this team it was:

1) Special teams
2) Offense
3) Defense
