Jenkins: ‘You want to go somewhere where you have a fair opportunity’
By Brandon George / Reporter

IRVING – Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins, who lost his starting job this season, is one of Dallas’ 15 unrestricted free agents this off-season who might not be re-signed.

Jenkins, a 2008 first-round pick, was the Cowboys’ best cornerback in 2011 but was sent to the bench when Dallas signed free agent cornerback Brandon Carr and traded up to draft cornerback Morris Claiborne sixth overall last off-season. Jenkins also underwent reconstructive right shoulder surgery last off-season that kept him from practicing with the Cowboys.

As Jenkins was leaving Valley Ranch on Monday, he was asked if he wants to return to the Cowboys or seek a starting job elsewhere around the league.

“Uh, do I want to come back? I’ve been here for five years and I’ve grown attached to everybody here,” Jenkins said. “It’s hard to just get up and leave and not want to come back, but at the same time you want to go somewhere where you have a fair opportunity and I guess you just go from there.”

Will probably be intercepting Romo passes for the Redskins or Giants next year

I'll be happy when he and Austin are gone. Minimal effort and they get hurt every 3rd play.

GTF out of here

always good when your first round pick is one contract and done.

The average top 10 QB threw for 4600 yds,30 tds,and 14.5 ints.
Doesn't sound to me like anybody's covering very much.

His opportunity has been more than fair, especially this year with all the injuries we had in the secondary. He never produced and hurt the team with his own signature style of tackling. He also couldn't be counted on to stay healthy. I will not miss him.

Saying he never produced isnt exactly accurate. He had a great 2009 season.

He had one good season, after that nothing.

He should go sign with Jacksonville so he can return to his south Florida ghetto.

I could see all of the Florida teams being interested in him.

He'll probably get a very nice contract in the offseason. When he is healthy he is a good man to man CB.

He's never healthy. That's the thing. He gets hurt with something every game.

Fair opportunity my ass. He didn't take advantage of his opportunity here and now he's blaming the team for it. Surprise there...

Redskins cant afford to sign anyone.

You sure? Looks to me like they have a lot of room to work with.

Throw in the fact that their biggest cap hit, Williams has a cap number that drops 6M moving to next year.

I think they're probably in better shape than Dallas as far as the cap goes.

They got hit with way mroe penalty money than we did, so I dont see how they could be in better shape than we are for this year.
