Jerry Jones: I don’t look forward to facing Redskins QB Robert Griffin III

Jerry Jones noted Tuesday that the Washington Redskins nearly beat the Cowboys twice last season, “without really acceptable quarterbacking.”

The Redskins’ defense made the difference, Jones said.

The Cowboys defeated the Redskins 18-16 in Week 3 and needed overtime for a 27-24 victory in Week 11.

In those two games, Redskins quarterback Rex Grossman was a combined 47-of-75 for 542 yards with three touchdown passes, one touchdown run and two interceptions.

After watching Redskins rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III on Sunday, the Cowboys owner and general manager is expecting better quarterback play when the Cowboys face the Redskins in November and December.

“Well, I was very impressed,” Jones said on 105.3 [KRLD-FM] The Fan’s New School show. “He certainly showed a lot of poise. They had him game-planned really well to do the kinds of things that he does good. His athletic ability, his speed, all of that is something that I don’t look forward to the Cowboys competing against for a lot of years.”

Griffin was 19-of-26 for 320 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions as he led Washington to a 40-32 upset victory in New Orleans on Sunday. The former Baylor standout and Heisman Trophy winner also ran for 42 yards on 10 carries.

Jones added: “The Redskins have needed a quarterback for a long time. They have an outstanding defense. … They’re going to be improved.”

Rex Grossman chewed up this defense last year, but this is a new defense with new players. I welcome any rookie QB against it regardless of the pedigree

By week 9 or whatever when we play the Redskins, there will be plenty of film on that college offense that the Redskins are employing.

Not saying we're going to shut RG3 down, but he's not going to hang 40 on us.

But I think we likely split with that team this year.

Washington is always tough team to play. They always seem to show up for us especially.

There will be a steep learning curve for RG3 regardless of how good he was week 1.

These coordinators will know all his strengths and weekenesses within a few weeks and game plan around them

What Middie said I guess

If the Saints had any sort of pass rush, they'd won that game. End of story. If they pressed the WRs, they'd won that game.

Well, he's got the arm to make all the throws.

Victor Cruz said we didn't do too much differently than last year. We played a lot of base and manned up on their wr's.

I'm concerned that Washington is no longer a jOke, but I'm not concerned matching up with them.

He did? In the first game he was 22 of 37 for 259 yards and 1TD and 1 INT. Hardly chewing up the defense.

Second game, he had a bit more sucess.

Fact is, the Redskins went up against a Cowboys' team that had Romo with busted ribs, and was without Austin, and they still could get the win.

Those balls just float and hang up in the air. Very interceptable.

He threw for 300 yards the second time they played with 2 td passes
Thats not good unless its a Cowboy doing it to someone else in your idiotic eyes

And yet #24 didn't. That's because RG3 threw across his body with enough velocity to complete the pass--something very few QBs can do. Try not being a braindead homer your entire life. It just comes off as sad.

I'll try coming off being a homer, when you come off your knees on Bob III---that looks even sadder. He went up agaisnt a losuy defense, and they employed gimmicks. If the Saints had any defense, they would have beaten them.

What gimmicks? I don't recall seeing any flea-flickers or reverses. If you mean smoke routes, the Skins have been running those since the Brunell days. And no one's building him up beyond what happened on Sunday. We're simply complimenting him on a fantastic game for a rookie QB in a hostile stadium. If you had any class or a shred of intellectual honesty, you'd do the same. I won't hold my breath.

Fine. He completed an accurate pass way downfield without being able to step into the throw.

if he does poorly next week Laz will say" I told you so" when you are merely trying to say that the guy had an impressive first game

Yep. No one's putting him in the HOF AFAIK. Of course he will struggle at times and throw picks this year. The point is that he looked like an NFL QB--something McGee can't say after four years in the league.
