Jenkins on whether he will play: ‘I really don’t know. I will try’

IRVING — Mike Jenkins says he will travel to northern New Jersey with the Cowboys and go through warmups before the team’s season opener against the New York Giants on Wednesday.

But the cornerback stopped short of saying he will play.

“I really don’t know,” Jenkins said. “I will try.”

Jenkins, who was limited in two practices this week, returned to the field Sunday for the the first time since undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in January.

Ever since Jenkins received medical clearance, head coach Jason Garrett has been noncommittal when updating Jenkins’ status for the game Wednesday.

“He hasn’t practiced a whole lot of football in a while, so conditioning is certainly a factor, getting himself re-acclimated to just playing football is a factor, so we’ll evaluate him day by day,” Garrett said last week.

I'm not a big fan of Jenkins, so I've been inclined to think the worst.

But apparently he had major reconstructive shoulder surgery and has the scars to prove it. Seems like a big deal. Is 8 months a long recovery time for a guy who is preparing to engage in NFL collisions again?

He has a brief interview posted on DC.com. After watching it and listening to him, his situation seems more sympathetic to me.

Honestly, I don't know what to think.

when was it you had that shoulder reconstruction and then needed to run out and tackle people again?

oh thats right, never

Neither has Jenkins.

8 months has passed so you should have asked when the last time he had major shoulder surgery and then get asked to tackle someone 8 months later.

It was questionable that Drew Brees would ever throw a football again. He didn't miss the first game of the following season and he was operated on in early January.

Jenkins is milking it because he's pissed about whatever.

Feel the same.

He's been disgruntled with how things have unfolded for him the past several months with this organization. If he was still penciled in with the 1st team chances are good he would be singing a completely different tune.
