Former UNT receiver Olawale says Cowboys are 'giving me a fair shot'

Running back Jamize Olawale made a good impression Saturday night against the Charges. He had 10 carries for 30 yards, and the Cowboys gave him two shots at the end zone from the 4-yard line. He pounded into the line twice and scored on a 2-yard run.

But all he kept thinking about was the final score. Chargers 28, Cowboys 20.

“It was nice to get my first NFL touchdown, but at the end of the day, we lost,” he said.

True that, but also at the end of the day, Olawale was the Cowboys’ leading rusher in the game. He also caught four passes for 30 yards, giving him 14 touches for 60 yards.

That is a lot of action for a guy who in April was merely a “tryout guy” at the Cowboys rookie minicamp following the draft. That just means he was there to help fill out practice for the draftees and signed rookie free agents.

“I’m blessed to have the opportunity to show what I can do,” the former North Texas receiver said. “I’m happy they’re giving me the opportunity to show what I can do. They’re giving me a fair shot.”

Olawale is getting more action because Phillip Tanner is out with a broken hand and Ed Wesley was released the day before the game. The other reserve back, Javarris Williams, got three carries and gained 11 yards.

“I felt like I was able to slow things down a little bit,” Olawale said, comparing his game against the Chargers to his game against Oakland last week. “It’s still – everything’s still moving fast. But I won’t be able to know until we get into that film room.”

This dude is getting a lot of pub on the ESPN Dallas station. His TD on Saturday was his first since high school. Could be a pretty damn good story if he makes it.

He's definitely not afraid of contact.

Putting him out there to give Murray a break but still punish the D is a good move. I'm not sure what Felix will give us this year.
