Disgruntled Cornerback Seeking New Contract

Even though Dallas Cowboys cornerback Mike Jenkins has said he wants to be traded, Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said on Monday the Cowboys have no plays unload Jenkins, who has been absent from OTAs while he rehabs his shoulder."Mike Jenkins, we believe, is a big part of our football team right now," Garrett said, according to NFL.com. "He's making a business decision not to be here. But we're not going to trade him. We like Mike Jenkins, we expect him to be a part of our team. We want to get him healthy, gotta get him back."Jenkins is in the final year of his contract and is staying away from practice partly because of his desire to get a lucrative contract extension.

The Indianapolis Colts have made multiple trade offers to the Cowboys in an effort to acquire Jenkins, and the last one remains on the table, according to a league source."We're concerned about Mike Jenkins' health, first and foremost," Garrett said. "He had the surgery soon after the season ended, he's been in rehab down in Florida. We've been in communication with him, he seems to be getting better. We want Mike Jenkins around our football team, just like we want everybody around our football team. We have 60 guys on our roster for most of the offseason, and we had 59 guys at our facility working out, involved in our program. We have 90 guys on our team now, we've pretty much had 89 guys around here now doing everything we wanted them to do. Everybody's been here."

I'll be glad when he's gone. Hopefully we'll trade him. He can give up plays and then do pushups like it's the funniest thing he's ever done for another team - when he's not hurt, of course.

I guess it depends on whether or not you think we'll be contenders.

we were contenders last yr, with a far lesser team on paper

stands to reason we'll be contenders this year, barring a rash of injuries to very key guys

Good. There is no reason to trade him. We have a position of strength, why weaken it?

Same reason we decided to weaken the RB position in 1989 by trading Walker: the future. It's not about this year but rather the next five years. Losing him to free agency next spring and getting nothing in return would be idiotic. If we were championship contenders this year, I'd be singing a different tune.

It also depends on what the Colts are offering.

The Cowboys are contenders for the playoffs. The same can be said for over half of the teams in this league.

we got a kings ransom for Herschel, the trade talk around Jenkins is nothing like that...getting a 4th rd pick isnt franchise altering BB...getting what we got for Walker was

and we're likely to get a 3rd or 4th rd pick as a comp selection in another year anyway, plus we'd have him for this year

we easily could be championship contenders this year...we were contenders last yr...we easily could have won the division and moved on in the playoffs...its not like we are some 1-15 dreg

Of course, I wasn't making an exact comparison. The point is that weakening a position (and therefore the team) in the present can pay dividends down the road. Short-term pain for long-term gain.

That'd be two drafts from now, meaning Romo, Ware and Witten will be two years older. Nor can you count on that juicy 3rd rounder. A guaranteed third round pick from Indy or some other team beats a "maybe."

not if Jenkins stays here and has a role with the team this year

he's a good player...if he's here he's gonna see the field quite a bit

not against trading him, but wouldnt trade him just to trade him...get a premium pick or sure fire starter and I'm on board...otherwise I'd just prefer he stays

Are you disputing that we couldnt have easily won the division? Really?

And we would have killed Atlanta in round one, I have little doubt about that...probably wouldnt have beaten GB, then again nobody thought the Giants had a prayer against them either

Depends on who Dallas signs. They could very well get nothing in return.

Also depends on how Jenkins plays, provided he plays at all and isn't hurt.

If the team can get a 2nd for him, I'd shuttle him fast. High 3rd would have be antsy to pull the trigger.

I specifically said that I'd keep Jenkins if we were a championship contender, which will never happen so long as Jerry is still running the show. Even if we had a competent GM or HC, winning your division does not automatically imbue you with "contender" status. We may have enough talent to steal the East or sneak in as a WC, but that's about it.

If the team can get a 2nd for him,. .

agree...2nd is the number I'd be good with dealing him on

if they wait till TC and he shows he is 100%, they'll likely get a much better deal from some CB desperate team anyway...if teams are offering a middle round pick now, the price would likely go up if he is healthy and showing well
