If I were a betting man, I'd say the Miami Dolphins would be where he lines up.
For me, it came down to the two most prominantly interested AFC Teams - Jets/Dolphins. Why AFC only? I have this (maybe misguided) belief that Eli and Peyton don't want to play in the same conference (let alone division, sorry Washington). I think neither of them wants to get in the way of the other in getting to the Super Bowl. So they don't want to play each other in the playoffs, or deal with potential tie breakers, etc..... preventing the others pursuit of a SB ring.
Might be way off there, but that's always been on my mind ever since Eli stuck it to the Chargers.
Which is kind of unfair to Peyton now, because I definitely think some of the NFC teams are much better matches for him.
But since I have it down to the AFC, I lean Dolphins over Jets.
I don't think Peyton would want to play for Rex Ryan. You have a cool, calm, psuedo-head coach Quarterback in Peyton Manning (really, what did Caldwell do? Or Dungy for that matter). And you have this brash, over the top, loudmouth head coach. Seems like a major clash in personalities.
That, and I'm not sure Peyton would want to encrouch on little brothers NY spotlight.
Miami is a franchise in flux right now, hiring a new coaching staff and all. But I know (or read reports) that the Dolphins owner covets Peyton. They have 15 mil in available cap space. I could see the Dolphins offering him a handsome deal, and selling the lost Dolphins mystique. Wouldn't suprise me if they also signed Reggie Wayne, to ease the transition.
While it's not a dome, throwing in South Beach is sexier than in New York for 8 games a year, and will allow for some stat padding in Peytons pursuit of cracking more of Bretts records.
And you sell Manning on the benefits of a top 10 selection. The teams ideas for improving the run game/defense. And how the team finished a respectable 6-3 after a woeful 0-7 start.
As for the impact it'll have? I think the Dolphins are a wild card team with Peyton. Maybe win a playoff game or two over the next two years. But I don't think Peyton as another Super Bowl appearance in his future.
