I don't understand why we have to speculate on how the game would have unfolded after the call...

They could have made a FG, they could have missed a FG, they could have scored a TD, they could have turned it over, they could have been sacked or gotten a penalty and had to punt... so many possibilities. If they had made a FG and were only down one, then the last drive would have probably looked different. They wouldn't have had to be as aggressive if they only had to get into FG range. But then their kicking has been atrocious most of the year, so who knows how close they feel they have to get... etc.

Like who gives a shit?

Bottom line, it was at the least highly unusual for them to pick the flag up after announcing PI. At the most, it was an incorrect call.

Just leave it at that and move on.

Yeah, I agree.

I have a friend who is a lifelong Lions fan. We spoke about the game this morning and his take was "if you only score 3 points in the second half, you really can't blame your loss on one bad call -- and that's assuming that it was a bad call."

I think he's right.

The Cowboys absorbed several gut shots during the game (falling behind quickly, giving up a 99 yard drive after a roughing penalty, poor execution in the first half, the Lions' late second quarter field goal, not scoring after the early second half interception, DLaw's fumble), but the Cowboys didn't let the circumstances spiral out of control. And when they began to catch/make a few breaks, they were ready.

The Lions weren't.

I tried to copy and paste this thing from CZ, it was a post from something called BTB trolling the nation.

Maybe somebody with better interwebs skillz than me can get it and make it look right.

that's why they don't throw flags based on still photos. :rolleyes

True. But doesn't detract from the fact that is was not PI, as you and others are claiming. The ball was underthrown, and Pettigrew was the one that initiated contact.

The head of NFL officiating actually said it was debatable whether it was PI. He said defensive holding should have been called, which actually throws out the argument they shouldn't have picked up the flag, because once the flag is thrown they can't change what it was thrown for. Regardless it was the back judge that threw the flag and he wouldn't have been able to see the hold to begin with. It would have been the head linesman on the sidelines.

the person with the best view of the play threw the flag. why he was overruled is anyone's guess.

Then Witten gets a bogus holding call near the goal line (didn't Murray score that play?)
There were two flags on us, for that play. The other penalty was declined, was illegal shift or formation. No TD either way.
