:D

This bill gives the president the authority to determine if an app is controlled by an "adversary" and if so to ban if in America. I understand what they are trying to accomplish here, although I do not understand the threat they are worried about, but giving the president that kind of authority bothers me a lot. First, who do we consider adversaries? Russia? China? How about Gaza? Does the president allow apps that favor his party or presidency, while declaring other apps that tend to criticize him as owned by adversaries?

The answer to foreign misinformation is not censorship, which is a slippery slope. The answer is transparency. During COVID, the greatest purveyors of misinformation were in the US government. And yet, the US government attempted to censor people who were just asking legitimate questions.

I am no fan of China, but I would oppose this bill.

That's the problem up North... I don't think they have the Castle Doctrine that we have here in Texas...
They do not. In fact their own dipshit President said citizens of his country have NO right to defend themselves.

Canada, most of Europe, Australia and New Zealand. This is what you get when your electorate is painfully lazy, stupid and uninformed.

I have been boycotting Tyson since the 1990s when I learned they are in bed with the Clintons. Read about how Tyson farms was responsible for polluting almost the entire fresh water supply of Arkansas when Clinton was governor. I didn't realize Ball Park and Sara Lee were part of their conglomerate. I don't buy those products either because they are awful but now I know.

He elaborates on his stance here:

I think Vivek makes some good points here but what Ive learned so far makes me think this bill should be passed.

Below is a link to a YouTube channel that covers China full time and points out all their hypocrisy and corruption. He gives a good analysis of the bill, pros and cons and who's against it. Strangely enough Trump who issued an executive order that TikTok divest from China while he was in office, Vivek, Kelly Anne Conway, AOC, Rand Paul, etc.

Full bill can be read at the link below, its surprisingly short (3-4 pages) aimed at blocking foreign adversaries from controlling applications and doesnt ban TikTok outright if its sold and no longer under the control of the CCCP

China, Russia, Iran, N Korea are definite adversaries and working nonstop through social media and myriad other ways to attack the US. TikTok has a huge effect on the youth of the US and is controlled by the CCCP. My understanding is that the equivalent app in China is used to influence their youth to value science, engineering, hating Japan, US, Taiwan, etc whereas in the US the app is tilted to value being famous, degrade America, etc

Perhaps the bill needs to be tightened so it cant be abused by our own politicians but I feel strongly that the US has to start doing everything we can to stop countries from using our technology to destroy us from within.

I think we're basically in WW3 but its not being fought on the same battlefield as WW2, this one is through proxies, subterfuge, subversion from within through social media, news and paying protestors in the US to protest against their own country and TikTok is a weapon China has placed smack dab in our country. None of the apps are allowed to operate in China without severe restrictions and censorship whereas theirs appear to operate in the US without restraint.

US companies need to rush to exit China ASAP and the NBA needs to grow a set and tell them to pound sand but most wont because they're able to use our own greed against us. I've heard China describes our politicians and people as "cheap", meaning cheap to buy off.

We need to quit arguing about nonsense like pronouns and wake the F up to the concerted effort by the countries mentioned above to destroy our way of life.

Here's some videos from a channel that focuses on China and its corruption and appears to be a reliable source of information

This guy lived in China for 10 years, has a Chinese wife and barely escaped the country before he was arrested by the CCCP.

Speaking of China, anyone hear about Angela Chao (Mitch McConnell's sister in law) drowning on a ranch in Texas near or next door to one owned by Mitch?

Makes me wonder if he's been compromised by the CCCP

hardly any mention in US news, I can only find coverage in obscure YouTube channels like this:

Here's some counter points that have merit:

I buy off on their concern over the precedent that could be set and abused by banning TikTok so perhaps I need to adjust my position but somehow we've got to find a way to counter China and not let them run rampant. I'm still convinced the CCCP can control TikTok to whatever degree they want and are the ones censoring Americans via the TikTok app. Just because Facebook and other apps are doing it too doesnt mean the CCCP should be allowed to do it via TikTok

I got my initials messed up, its CCP (Chinese Communist Party) not CCCP. The current group of thugs running China want everyone to use CPC (Communist Party of China) in order to white wash the past.

One of those Youtube channels is asserting that the Communist party has made an effort to change from the use of CCP to CPC in order to further obfuscate the past and make it harder for people to find information on the internet like Tiananmen Square in 89, etc because CCP was used at that time.

Simple acronyms like CCP, pictures of a Winnie the Pooh (insulting referring to Xi Jinping), writing the number "8964" (1989 Tiananmen Square massacre) in large letters on paper or a shirt or a picture of Tiananmen Square can cause their minions (referred to as "little pinks") running because having any of these words, numbers or pictures on their videos will alert the Chinese censors who then come down on the little pinks making the video.

The following is a video about a little pink who was attacking a Japanese man in Tokyo because he posted "no Chinese allowed" at his restaurant. The little pink was relentless in his attacks until the man put statues of Winnie the Pooh, etc in visible locations outside and in his restaurant. It sounds crazy so I wanted anyone curious to see evidence of it actually occurring. The extent of Chinese control both within and outside of China is astonishing (they've even set up Chinese police stations in other countries to control Chinese while visiting or even living abroad).

No one has the courage to comment? LOL. No one wants to see children watching porn. Our kids get too much adult content, including politics, already. But I am against censorship. There are other ways to keep porn from kids without blocking it from everyone. There are all kinds of content about drugs and violence kids can watch. I would argue playing Grand Theft Auto is bad for kids, but we leave it to the parents to control what their kids do on the internet or on their XBox.

How do we know China does not have de facto control over CNN? Or MSNBC? I do not understand why we think anything delivered over the internet is so much more dangerous than the same crap delivered via main stream media? I think disinformation, for example, if worse coming from "reputable" media like the Washington Post or NY Times than it is from some random twitter account. We never consider controlling disinformation in the media - unless it is OANN or Fox News.
