God there's some sketchy officiating in this Texans-Raiders game.

I was about to post the same thing. Pretty awful.

I hate the Texans but it sure seemed like they got hosed pretty bad on several calls/decisions.

And there was assclown Goodell sitting in the crowd, giddy over his product and great work as commish.

Those spots at the end where the Texans turned it over on downs was fishy as hell, especially as quickly as the refs award first downs when it's even close now.

If Bill O'Brien gets through his press conference without racking up $500k in fines, he should be coach of the year. His team got bent over and straight fucked by whatever cartel bet big on Oakland.

Goodell not trying to get kidnapped I guess.

Barry was better. Even Emmitt knew it. Watch the 30 for 30.

Also, Troy was not even a top 3 QB during those super bowl seasons. You could ask him, but he probably can't remember that far back.

All facts.

There is no logical basis for putting anyone, including Barry Sanders over Emmitt Smith. Smith is the greatest RB of all time, and it isn't even close. You can try to argue stats and/or Super Bowls, and nobody else can match Emmitt. He holds the all time records for carries, rushing yards, rushing TDs, and 100 yard rushing games. That's full ownership of the grand slam of RB career records.

Emmitt is also the greatest playoff RB of all time owning the yards, TDs, and 100 yard game records. Likewise he's been league and SB MVP. Lead the league 3 straight years competing head to head with Barry. Hell, he even spotted Sanders 2 games in 93 and still out rushed him.

So what you got to counter this? You just liked the way Barry looked? Well, that is subjective, and does not deal with the facts. Nor do "what if" scenarios about how long people played for. Maybe Barry takes the yard total if he played longer, but maybe he gets hurt and doesn't. He most likely would have never touched Emmitt's rushing TD record, nor could he ever hope to match Emmitt's playoff numbers.

Barry also could never catch passes, or block blitzing linebackers the way Emmitt did either.

Oh, and if that isn't good enough, Emmitt and Jerry Rice are the only non kickers to score 1000 points in an NFL career.

A short description is that Barry had more talent and the equivalent of Jason Garrett as his coach. For some reason, fans continue to discount the importance of a front office and coaching.

The simplest way to settle is if you switched their teams. Barry would have shined in Dallas. Emmitt would have been a slightly stockier Dave Meggett in Detroit before likely washing up in Tampa and sucking dick for crack after playing with Dilfer.

Not guessing.

He couldn't block and wasn't a receiving threat. That means he fails miserably in Dallas and gets traded to Cleveland or umm, Detroit. He was basically feast or famine running he ball - 8 or 10 times he would get stuffed for short or no gain, or a loss, then break the magic run. Emmitt was and is, the far superior all-around running back and would have been successful on any roster and lifting that team with him. Would have been devastating in the run and shoot.

I think Bo Jackson would have outshined both if he had played on those early 90's teams, and if he had stayed healthy, and if he made football his priority and gave up baseball.

There were numerous games where Barry would be getting stuffed all game, and in the course of all that he'd rip off two 60 yard runs. Finish the game with 120 yards and all he really had was two amazing runs. The rest of the game he was basically ineffective.

So when he was getting stuffed, that was his fault, right?

And I guess having spares like Erik Kramer at qb that no one feared was, too.

Look, you can say Emmitt and that would be perfectly reasonable. His durability was amazing, no doubt about it. But saying things like, "it's not even close" is ridiculous. Even if you take Barry out of the conversation it's close. Jim Brown anyone?

He was also a pretty mediocre short yardage and GL runner. So mediocre that he was taken out of the game for it during a lot of his career.

He was an explosive talent that had a lot of highlight film plays. But I don't believe and will never be convinced that he was the better all around player between him and Emmitt.

Sometimes it was his fault. True, Barry never had the line that Emmitt did but Barry did play with a couple pro bowlers on that line (Lomas Brown, and Kevin Glover). Barry did have a tendency though to run sideways and look for the home run instead of just taking that 2, 3, or 4 yard gain. That's caused him to lose yards on a lot of runs. Also factor in that he played on a team with a very good offense. So defense could not always stack the line to stop him.

As for Jim Brown, way before my time. I would put Payton up there though.

This is one of the dumbest misconceptions that continues to be spouted. The old "if Barry had Emmitt's Oline...." bullshit. You cannot plug-n-play Barry with Emmitt's Oline. For starters they were two different types of backs. Emmitt was a power back, and so he had an Oline suited for that: the road-grading 300+ lbs. linemen, as opposed to Barry, who was a finesse back and had Oline employed zone blocking, which at that time the Olinemen were much lighter, and more athletic; generally less than 300 lbs. usually around 270 lbs. See Denver's Oline with Terrell Davis. Most people that indulge in this debate and claim that Barry was better than Emmit, do so from mainly watching highlights of Barry or simply because they hate any and all things Cowboys and their success.

You couldn't put Barry behind Emmitt's Oline because mainly Barry was not a patient runner, and such was required with Emmitt's Oline. There is a reason why Barry holds the all-time record for most negative yards.

Barry often ran from 4 WR sets against nickle and dime packages. 4-1s and 4-2s. Barry rarely went up against 3LB sets.

And don't give me that shit that Barry had crap for an Oline. Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover were no slouches. Brown had 7 consecutive Pro Bowl selections and was a First Team All-Pro, and Glover was a 3-time Pro Bowler. You throw these names out at the "Barry was better than Emmitt" crowd, and they look at you like, "Huh...? Who are they?"

Yeah.

Barry also had Scott Mitchell, who was more than a serviceable QB.

The "power back" thing is a misconception. A finesse back would do just fine running through giant holes. Emmitt is the most durable back ever. I don't think anyone save for cowboy homers would call him the best back ever though. Payton and Barry were both better, and Jim Brown was likely a level above all of them.

If that's all it was "running through giant holes" then all those backup RB's they tried when Emmitt needed a breather or held out would "do just fine"

The fact is there was more to it than that. Emmitt's vision and ability to sneak through small openings was huge, as well as his great cutback ability.

And there's no comparison really at all when it comes to short yardage running (Smith is one of the best of all time) receiving and definitely pass blocking too.

He was a great all around player.
