Garrett spent a lot of time gushing about Ramsey though the other day though.

ESPN's Ed Werder reported on SportsCenter that the Cowboys believe Ohio State RB Ezekiel Elliott could help their defense and potentially "change their win total dramatically."

Although Jalen Ramsey is preferred by the scouting department -- and top personnel men Will McClay and Stephen Jones -- there is a belief at Valley Ranch that Elliott could have a DeMarco Murray 2014-like impact, wherein the Cowboys' running-game dominance and ability to control the clock allowed them to "protect" a defense that was short on talent. Dallas' current defense is also full of holes, particularly up front and in the secondary. It's believed Jerry Jones and Jason Garrett are pulling for Elliott over Ramsey at 4.

Jimbo Fisher talks up Jalen Ramsey’s intelligence

One of the knocks on Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey has been that he moved between cornerback and safety in college, which some see as a sign that he’s a jack of all trades but master of none. Ramsey’s college coach says that’s nonsense.

Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher said on ESPN that Ramsey played all over the field for Florida State because he’s smart enough to learn every position.

“Highly intelligent, very smart, learns very well,” Fisher said. “That’s why we were able to move him to so many different places. A lot of guys have the athletic ability but not the intelligence level of comprehending all that. Extremely athletic and at the same time physical, that’s very rare for a corner. He’s got length and size, you can play the nickel, you can play the dime, you can play field corner, boundary corner or safety.”

Fisher also said Ramsey can play near the line of scrimmage in a way that other defensive backs can’t.

“He’s a great blitzer also, you’d see him jumping over the pile blocking kicks, he’d come off the edge and get sacks,” Fisher said.

Ramsey might just be the best player in this draft. Most projections have him going No. 3 to San Diego or No. 4 to Dallas.

If that's true, this settles it for me. I don't want any dumb players, they eventually make you pay on or off the field, if not both.

the fact that we've been talking up Elliott in recent days tells you he's not our guy

Yeah, part of me wants to believe they talked him up so a team like Miami panics and jumps up to 3 to draft him, guaranteeing that we get Ramsey at 4.

Then, I remember Jerry isn't that clever.

Steve "Yellow" Dennis is saying he talked to his source who is very close to Jerry and he confirms that Zeke is Jerry's guy.

I think that's where some of the talking up comes from, that Jerry loves him. But the majority like Ramsey.

BTW, props to Noshame for nailing it, IMO: The Cowboys know the Chargers are taking one of the tackles, so they're really free to talk about these guys all they like. They don't have to worry about someone jumping ahead of them, so there's really no reasons for smokescreens.

Is Steven Dennis the new Mike Fisher with his "exclusive, exclusive"? After that press conference the other day it doesn't exactly take a genius to figure out Jerry really like Zeke.

At this point IDGAF which one it is! I just want the pick over with so we can move on to the next order of business

I have convinced myself somehow that I will be equally happy with either pick. All I have to do it think about everything we get with the guy we do pick and NOT think about everything we will loose by NOT picking the other guy

Although....

If you look at it from a need standpoint then we are adequate (not great but will get at least 1000 yards out of our current group) at RB but still severely lacking at secondary so Ramsey would be a better pick to fill a need we have
