I just think, on this team, as long as Jerry is the ultimate decision maker/authority, along with puppet coaches, it's meaningless from Witten.
I totally agree that what Jerry has going here renders real team leaders pretty meaningless. I'm just not going to take that extra step that the comments players make to try to put forth an attitude of optimism in the wake of losses or when the team is not performing well during the season means that everything he says is meaningless.

Like NoDak said, all players act like that during the season, and if they didn't, they would be labeled troublemakers. Witten's comments here come in the offseason when we're what a month from OTAs. If he came out and said Tony was working his way back, rehabbing, working hard, and he had work still to do, there would be no repercussions from that. That's what most people would expect given the situation. It's a fairly innocuous comment, it doesn't really inspire those rah rah feelings. I have no reason to think he's being less than truthful.

To the people who I hate that are saying 'yea wut I want whitten 2 say?!?!!!!'

How about he shut up.

How about we go all 1992 hurricanes on the press, wear camo and black and not talk to anyone. We from the streets bitch!
Then we have Jerry being the only voice of the team, cause he'll never shut up. Not sure that's preferable.

People are acting like Witten is just a Hos-like sunshine pumper and just makes stuff up. He seems pretty honest to me.

.

He does take the high road a lot, but I don't believe he's a sunshine pumper.

CMD is right, what do people really think he's gonna say (especially this time of yr)
