As a husky man who has worn many a jacket, I feel qualified to know when the open jacket choice has been forced on a man. When the jacket hangs perfectly vertical and the front is open 18 inches, you can button it but it won't look right. It will look like the button is just holding on.

That jacket is open 5 inches at the most. His shoulders are also back because he has his right arm around his wife.

I wear a jacket damn near every day. That one can be buttoned no problem.
