Every coach Jerry has hired was given at least three full years to prove himself. I don't think favored son Jason will be the exception.

Except Gailey - he was given two.

Don't think the three year "rule" would apply to Garrett considering Jerry has stated numerous times that Jason has been here since 2007 and that Wade pretty much let him do whatever the hell he wanted on the offensive side of the ball.

oops, right you are. weird that we made the playoffs both years and he was still dismissed.

I don't know, but those next three years were surely forgettable!

Actually, I take that back. Campo walked around the team hotel with the fart machine that one time, the wet suit at Sea World, and who can forget the players punching that time clock!?

As an aside, could you imagine how reinvigorated the fanbase would become if he was able to bring in Chip Kelly, Saban, Gruden, Cowher, etc? It would just be nice to not lose games due to coaching. It might also help Romo to not have to come from behind in 77% of games if we have better coaching out there.

I'll throw up if they hire somebody like Chip Kelly

He got canned because he was an idiot.

The first yr he won the division, we swept Arizona and won both games with the offense rolling all over them in both games. Then in the playoff game at Texas Stadium, Cardinal defensive players said after the game that the Cowboys did absolutely nothing different. Ran the same plays from the same formations, used the same keys every play. Said it was like taking candy from a baby and they dominated the game.

The next year we barely made the playoffs (8-8) and were manhandled again in the postseason. Afterward Jones rightly insisted Gailey give up playcalling and hire an OC, and he refused.

I vaguely remember Irvin screaming at him during the opener at Washington in 1999 when we fell way behind. I don't think Troy was suited to that Steeler "four-wide" offense.

I remember us coming back from 21 down in the fourth quarter in Washington and then playing Arizona and manhandling them. The Aikman, Irvin, and Rocket combination gave me flashbacks of when Harper was there. It was amazing. We also played someone else and we looked good also in that game. Then of course Irvin was injured and the season was over. I still think that team could have gone to the NFC Championship Game and possibly the Super Bowl.

I doubt Jerry would work with Saban, and vice versa. Saban would want too much control, and would detest all the media access.

Chip Kelly is too much a risk, being a college guy and all with a gimmicky offense, adn we'd have to revamp our entire offense.

But while I haven't been a huge 'bring in cowher/gruden' guy previously, I'd jump at it now if it meant the clown show left Dallas.

All of these coaches are an upgrade over Garrett.

Kelly is a "risk"? As opposed to what? The current situation has us going no place fast. We'll either limp into the wildcard next season and get promptly destroyed...or miss the playoffs again altogether. I'd take a "risk" with potential over that certain future.

GB, Seattle, New Orleans, Atlanta, SF, Washington, Minny, and New York are not going to just disappear. Arizona, Tampa, and Chicago will likely improve too. If Dallas doesn't get better coaching in place quickly (Gruden is my top choice), then they better hope that Goodell increases the playoff field to 10 per conference.

Keep in mind that Jerry is more than capable of hiring people like Campo, Wade or Norv to be HC before you get too nauseous.

Sounds like a carbon copy of our current coach and situation.

There is no offense Troy couldnt have run in the NFL and been great at it.

The problem Aikman (and other Cowboys) had with Gailey's scheme is he totally ignored the middle of the field and most routes were short and to the outside. Gailey basically got rid of all the timing based plays that Aikman and Irvin excelled at for so long, especially those in the intermediate/deeper areas of the field, which they attacked so well under Turner and Zampese.

Which is what Chip Kelly is going to be

That's fine with me. Right now, the team will go 16-16 in the next two seasons, and end up with shitty draft picks, injured players, and an older core.

Jerry is incapable of thinking outside the box wisely. I'd rather bring in a consensus "hot candidate" with a higher potential ceiling than Ginger, and watch him go 3-13 (while allowing up to draft top 5) than continue to settle with what we have now.

That being said, I do think that Gruden could come in and do exactly what Harbaugh did in SF. No team is guaranteed to win titles, but at least SF going to be competing deep in January. That would be a refreshing change.

Any fuckstick that takes Michael Irvin off the field on 3rd down in obvious passing situations and uses the likes of Billy Davis and Jeff Ogden in his place is a clown. It shouldnt even be argued about.

You know, I obviously remember him doing this, even went to training camp once during the Gailey era, but what was his reasoning for it? I don't even remember. Just that Irvin needed a rest?

yuck, John Gruden. I'd rather keep Garrett.

Sure the hiring of Gruden will invigorate the fanbase until they recognize what a piece of shit he is.

I think thats what he claimed, something about saving his body for a full season. But Irvin said there was nothing wrong with him physically and taking him out on obvious passing downs was a retard move.

Gailey also coined the "we want WR's who can block #1, catch #2" phrase.

And that showed up in the play on the field. He fielded a ton of stone handed WR's. Couldnt catch or get open consistently, but hey they could run block.

Dan Patrick is apparently talking about the Gruden/Dallas thing again today

No, and no it wont be.

Just like every other fad offense, defensive coordinators and staff will spend all offseason picking it apart. Next year, you'll see more of these spread option QB's get hammered more than ever.

The only saving grace it might have is Goodell's continued pussifcation of the game. He keeps inventing more and more stuff to help the offenses and protect QB's no matter what.

I agree, but NFL defenses have had all year to figure out Washingtons offense. Not saying that it will work but that shit looks impossible to stop.

Would you trade two firsts for Kaepernick?
