2014 NFL free agency rumors: Cowboys to be active, but bargain shoppers
Every year the Dallas Cowboys find themselves in a salary cap mess, but they still manage to make at least one splash during free agency. This season, they are once again expected to be active and aggressive, but it won’t be the big-money spending that we are used to seeing.
According to the Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the Cowboys will be “active in free agency” but “they plan to take their time and will be bargain-conscious.”
Dallas needs help on the defensive side of the ball. They could wait for the first wave of free agency signings to take place before they dive into the market. One player to keep an eye on will be defensive tackle Henry Melton, who spent the past five years with the Chicago Bears.
Melton is one of the top players at his position when healthy, but his 2013 campaign was cut short by a torn ACL. That same injury, however, is what could make him a bargain deal for the folks in Big D.
The Cowboys are in desperate need of help along the defensive line, so Melton could instantly improve the line, especially given his familiarity with new Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.
