Here's some NFL draft smoke and eggs for Monday brunch. Apply the necessary amount of salt:

-- A source told me this morning that Alabama safety Mark Barron is one of the hottest names right now and may be gone before the Cowboys pick at 14. Knowledge of Dallas' interest may fuel a deal up. I was told the Tennessee Titans might look to deal up into the 11-13 range to get Barron. I was told similar things about the Jets (currently 16th) and the Eagles (15th).

-- Fletcher Cox is also a hot name. Miami was mentioned as a landing spot if they don't land Ryan Tannehill, or if they decide to pass on Texas A&M quarterback.

-- Another source told me the Cox-to-St. Louis rumors which surfaced late last week are off-base, and that the Rams are looking at other players.

-- The Stephon Gilmore-to-Jacksonville meme may be concretizing; everybody hears it.

looks like a less athletic Roy Williams who makes no plays but as long as he can stand back there and tell Orlando Scandrick where to stand I guess he's worth #14.

looks like a less athletic Roy Williams who makes no plays but as long as he can stand back there and tell Orlando Scandrick where to stand I guess he's worth #14.

He makes alot of plays, and he seems alot more athletic and better in space than RW was, by quite a bit.

Not sure if you've ever seen him play with some of the comments you make.

We need another guy in the secondary who can be a step late but make the tackle right after the first down reception. This is our man.

I dont know that I agree, I guess it depends on how much a team likes a certain player. if they (whether its us or anyone else) is totally sold on a guy and think that he's a perfect fit, excellent player etc etc, then sacrificing a little to move up an ensure that you get THAT guy, and not "settle" for a lesser guy makes sense.

Depends on what you have to give up etc etc, but if you need to move up a few spots to make sure you get a guy and it only costs a middle round pick or something, that isnt a bad move.

Maybe they think he's a perennial probowler, and it'd be at a position we have suffered with for years.

I dont know that I agree, I guess it depends on how much a team likes a certain player. if they (whether its us or anyone else) is totally sold on a guy and think that he's a perfect fit, excellent player etc etc, then sacrificing a little to move up an ensure that you get THAT guy, and not "settle" for a lesser guy makes sense.

But if you stay put, other guys will be there at 14 who still fit a need, be it on the OL, DL or perhaps OLB. If we were one game-changer away from something special, I could see the wisdom, but that's not the case (sorry, optimists). And moving up from 14 to say 11 will cost them at least a third, not a bargain rate fifth.
