They worked out four punters and he had the best showing.

They'll likely sign one of them this week.

Mat McBriar works out for Eagles; Cowboys next
July, 23, 2012
Jul 2310:20AM CTBy Todd Archer | ESPNDallas.com Recommend8Tweet30Comments6EmailPrintIRVING, Texas – Mat McBriar's comeback from offseason surgery to remove a cyst below his left knee is just about complete with the two-time Pro Bowler working out for Philadelphia on Monday.

The Cowboys would like to visit with McBriar, their punter since 2004, this week before the team flies to Oxnard, Calif. The Cowboys have two punters on their roster in Chris Jones, who replaced McBriar for two games in 2011, and Delbert Alvarado.

Update (1:10 p.m.): McBriar is scheduled to work out for the Cowboys on Tuesday.

The Eagles are working out several punters.

McBriar had surgery in February and has been punting for the last six weeks in San Diego. McBriar ended up on injured reserve last year because of nerve issue that affected his foot. He averaged 43.8 yards per punt and had a 36.1-yard net average, which was his lowest since his rookie season.

McBriar, who was the Cowboys’ special teams’ captain in 2011, has a career 45.3-yard average with a 38.1-yard net average. From 2007-10 his net average went up every year, topping out at 41.7 yards in 2010, which earned him his second Pro Bowl bid.

If he's healthy, signing him should be a no brainer.

(Un)Lucky for us we have a GM without a brain.

P Brad Maynard had a strong workout for the Eagles today. He is taking a physical for them and could be signed before camp signs.

McBriar reportedly joins Eagles
Posted on 07/25/2012 by Tom Orsborn
Mat McBriar, arguably the top punter in Cowboys history, has agreed to terms with the Eagles, according to ESPNDallas.com and other media outlets.

McBriar worked out for the Cowboys on Tuesday, but the parties couldn’t come to terms on a new deal and he got a better offer from the Eagles. McBriar spent eight seasons with Dallas and is the franchise’s leader in gross (45.3) and net averages (38.1).

McBriar also landed a franchise-record 175 punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line.

McBriar was hampered last season by a left foot injury and had surgery in February on his left knee.

So who do the Cowboys turn to now? Chris Jones, who averaged 42.6 yards per punt as McBriar’s replacement last season, is the top candidate. Delbert Alvarado is also on the roster

Would have been nice for McBriar to have been a part of the training camp roster but it shows you how they feel about Jones. Battle for job

Two words:

Dez Bryant and Tony Romo and Jason Witten and Miles Austin and Felix Jones and DeMarco Murray and Dwayne Harris

With an offense that talented we don't even need to carry a punter on the final 53.
