I am all about getting Winston. Is he as good as he once was? Probably not, but he is an upgrade from Free and has shown he is a leader. I thought it was great when he basically called the KC fans classless when they cheered Cassell getting hurt.

And we could use that leadership too.

He displayed that same type of attitude in Houston as well.

I miss having real linemen too. Now they are going to a Zone blocking, finesse line and it stinks IMO.

If they execute it, its fine.

If not, it sux just like what we did under Houck.

Do we know we're going to zone blocking though? I mean it seems like for the last few years we've heard that Garrett wants smaller, mobile guys, but Houck was his BFF in coaching and he loved the big guys. Plus despite hearing it, we keep bringing in the bigger guys.

I'm hoping Callahan gets to do whatever he wants, though. Maybe it'lll really happen this time. Better him than Garrett.

I dont care how big or small they are or how fast they run, I'd just like to see some guys actually block

And I don't care how big or small they are or how fast they run or seeing some guys actually block, I'd like to see more running plays designed and called more frequently. The drawplay, reverse, naked bootleg (completely fooled the Giants at the goal line), and really any quick snap dive have become so few and far between or nonexistent in the recent Garrett gameplan that when I resd about the Dallas running game being so bad, I think about how little variable running plays are called. Even if the plays are not effective all the time, there should still be the threat. When the good running back (Murray) was not injured, he had a 4.1 ypc average and would have had a 1000+ yards for the season, despite the pittance interest that Garrett has in the running game. The other running hacks by committee members managed around 3.6 ypc which, is still not bad enough to stop running the ball or lose faith in the running game as last year. Eventually even 3.6 ypc moves the chains.

Its hard to continue running the football when 1) you are constantly thrown for no gains or losses on first and/or second down and then 2) When you fall behind.

Complaining about it is pretty lame, anybody with half a brain can see they don't run more because they haven't been good at it. If the OL is improved, I have no doubt in my mind they'll run more.

Houck had no talent to work with. They drafted Tyron and he was playing very well as a rookie under Houck. It was time for Houck to
retire, but he was a better coach than fans gave him credit for.

I would rather see a line made up of big, physical, mean SOBs that punished defenses. I didn't want Callahan or his zone blocking scheme and I hope he follows Garrett out the door when he is fired.

Everybody assumed that they wanted smaller linemen for the ZBS, but they have not brought in the first Zone blocking type of lineman in free agency or the draft since Callahan was hired. They just don't know what the hell they want to do and the current line is a mess because of it.

Broaddus mentioned on talking cowboys that Winston is on the radar but probably an after the draft 1 year contract kind of guy. Mickey also mentioned that he will probably only be able to get a 1 or 2 year deal also.

A couple of years ago people were going crazy over trading for gaither and were all pissed we didn't, he turned out to be a stiff and we ended up with Tyron smith.

Personally I hope we draft a tackle.

I would ratherbsee the line built through the draft and not by signing these lower tier free agents.

Houck is/was a great coach. He's arguably one of the best OL coaches in league history. No question about it.

I don't care what type of scheme it is, as long as it works. Obviously right now it isn't working, and whether it was Houck his last yr or two or Callahan now, lack of talent is clearly the main reason.

Pretty sure he had a hand in those two JAGS we signed last year. And guys like Doug Free and maybe even Costa or Kowalski would seem to be tailor made for a ZB type scheme.

All that said, it doesn't matter what the scheme is as much as it matters having guys who can block and play at an adequate level. There's really not an OL in this league that plays at a high level today that resembles OL's like what we had in the early to mid 90's, or the Redskins, Rams, Giants etc etc of the 80's early 90's. Not sure the reason, but if you look at the teams with the best OL's today, most of them seem to of the other type.

Hmmmm.....if the team lap dog is saying it's possible, then he must be on our radar to some degree.

I hope they make it happen.

I played and coached in both schemes and I liked the man scheme because of it's physical type of play. Both can work, but I just hate finesse football. The 49ers have the best line in the league IMO. They are big and nasty and have the ability to punish a defense. The Ravens have a good line as well. The Cowboys used to go for the big maulers like these two teams. I don't know what Callahan is wanting to go after. Bernadeau, Livings and Cook have been signed since Callahan was hired, but they are not zone linemen. Leary was a Callahan player and he doesn't fit the scheme either. I hope Garrett is wanting a system much like the 90s Cowboys. They used a man blocking scheme with some zone concepts. This team needs power. They are terrible at getting a push at the LOS. IMO the last thing this line needs are some small, quick players that gets no push in the running and gets overpowered. I had the same concerns when they drafted Tyron. He needs to gain about twenty pounds and maybe he could stop getting pushed back into the pocket with bull rushes.
