great use by coaches of him for sure

dude, he sucks. enough of the "he'd be putting up great numbers were it not for Witten" garbage. even Fasano, a guy we got rid of a million years ago, is better.

So he might be out until late next season, right?

Time for that Geoff Swain kid to step up.

Fasano didnt do jack here either. Bennett didnt do much. Both were FAR more productive players after they left here.

The same will be true for Escobar. He isn't much of a blocker, but he could definitely be a quality receiving TE.

Geoff Swaim shanked him Oz style right before Escobar took the field assuring Swaims next man upness for next year.

How do you injure your Achilles sitting on your ass?

And how on earth are we going to replace his 8 catches for 64 yards on the season?

Don't get me wrong, I like the kid. We just never used him correctly as with so many others we've had on the team. But he will not be missed.

A good coaching staff would have been utilizing him more in the intermediate areas in the middle of the field. Doesn't have elite speed but he's got massive wingspan and good hands. Would have been a huge mismatch for almost all LB's and safeties. The few times they ever let him run these routes in three years he was consistently open. We all love Jason Witten, but he's almost a non factor beyond 8-10 yds now. Escobar would have given the team another downfield threat.

Instead the extent of our use of him was to split him out wide on goal line situations.

Speaking of Witten....

How many more years do we honestly think he has left?

Now that he is #10 on the list with 1013 receptions I'm just wondering where he will end up on the list when he retires. I'm sure he will end up no lower then third all time behind Tony Gonzalez at 1325. If he sticks around long enough he might pass Tony for second place. But there is no way he passes rice with 1549.

Third place right now is Marvin Harrison at 1102. So I see him easily passing him to take third.

He seems to average about 70-80 catches a year. So he would make fourth place next year and maybe even third place if he has a high production year

But it looks like he would need to play 4-5 years to take over Tony in second place

So how many years do we think Witten has left honestly?

I'm sure he will be like an old horse that has to be put out to pasture and shot to get him off the field. I just don't see him retiring unless he's forced to. Or if he somehow become a liability to the team or detrimental with his lack of production. But as long as he's out there still making plays I see him still playing.

So what say you? How many years left and where does he end up on the all time leading receptions?

I think he goes out when Romo goes out.

Its obvious he has slowed down a ton. He doesn't draw double coverages and he isn't much of a threat downfield at all. He's going to probably end up this yr with a career low in yds per reception and likely to end up with career low in first down receptions.

He should be getting utilized less and less but instead this coaching staff plays him virtually every play (I think I saw last week he had played all but one or two offensive snaps all year, tops in the league I believe). He also isn't as effective as a blocker as he used to be.
