Hear that?

It's the sound of my fingers tapping, waiting for some free agent activity. We can speculate on the Cowboys' 2011 chances all we want, assuming there's a season, but we've got to see what they do in free agency first.

We've covered most of the bases: Re-sign Doug Free, maybe re-sign safety Gerald Sensabaugh and a defensive end or two, and look for some more help on the market at those two positions.

One guy keeps getting lost in translation: left guard Kyle Kosier.

The free-agent-to-be will turn 33 this season and he's had some injury problems, so he'd have to sign at a fairly reasonable price. The Cowboys have covered themselves to some degree, depending on your confidence in Montrae Holland, by signing him to a two-year deal last year. Fourth-round pick David Arkin, they hope, is a future starter.

But there's hard evidence over the past three seasons that the Cowboys line plays more effectively and cohesively with Kosier in the lineup. His presence has been very helpful to Free and center Andre Gurode, who's now a five-time Pro Bowler.

The Cowboys won't be able to re-sign everybody. But they really need to weigh whether they can get by this season without Kyle Kosier.

Get a helmet cam and walkie talkie installed in Guroude's helmet and Kosier can make the line calls from the booth for the water-headed retard.

I'd like to upgrade both guard positions this offseason(whenever that is). I realize that it's not realistic, but I can hope.
