The Dallas Cowboys signed four free agents, including a pair of linebackers, to their reserve/future list on Wednesday
Linebackers Quinton Spears and Jabara Williams, both with Texas ties, join guard Chris DeGeare and defensive end Tristan Okpalaugo among the signees.
Spears, a former Prairie View standout, signed with Miami in 2011 and was claimed by Cleveland off of waivers on September 4, 2011 and appeared in 13 games for Cleveland. He was released by Cleveland on August 31, 2012 and was out of football until signing with Indianapolis on January 1, 2013. Spears was released by the Colts on September 10, 2013 and was out of football.
Williams, who played at Stephen F. Austin, was originally selected in the seventh round (228th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft by St. Louis. He was released by the Rams on October 26, 2011 after appearing in two games and claimed via waivers by Chicago, where he appeared in five games. Williams was released by Chicago on August 31, 2012 and added to the Rams practice squad on November 21, 2012 and signed to the Rams roster on December 31, 2012. He was released on August 27, 2013 and was out of football.
DeGeare was originally selected in the fifth round (161st overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft by Minnesota out of Wake Forest. He appeared in eight games with five starts in 2010 with Minnesota. He spent the 2011 season on the Vikings practice squad. DeGeare was released by Minnesota on August 31, 2012 and signed to the Tennessee Titans practice squad on September 4 and was released on October 17 and spent the year out of football. He signed with the New York Giants on January 8, 2013 and was released on final cuts and remained out of football.
Okpalaugo originally signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent following the 2013 NFL Draft out of Fresno State. He was released by Miami on August 31 and added to the Vikings practice squad on September 2. He was released by the Vikings on September 10.
The players join seven others on the Cowboys’ futures list: wide receivers Tim Benford, Jamar Newsome and Lance Lewis, defensive end Caesar Rayford, linebacker Jonathan Stewart, tackle John Wetzel and guard Ray Dominguez.
