lolginger Vinny Del Negro
I still don't believe he gets the record without Allen in front of him through his career.
Interesting tidbit for cmd. Another anonymous scout, or it could be the same guy said that Harrison Smith would be limited in coverage.
The one on DeCastro said he wouldn't take DeCastro in the 1st because he's not a tackle. A lot of teams/scouts still believe you don't draft a guard in the 1st. I am under no illusion that DeCastro is a tackle but I do believe he instantly upgrades a glaring weakness for us.
I think Harrison Smith can play Free Safety where as Barron is a Strong Safety only type.
It would give us 3 out of 5 solid Olinemen for the next 10 years. Guards are almost as important as tackles for QBs like Romo and Brees. It's low risk, because there's no way he's worse or equivalent to what we have now. It's also high reward if he's an OG for a decade.
I do not trust that Jerry will hit on this pick otherwise. Decastro is the safest, sure-thing bet for the franchise. We've had countless shitty 1st rounders since Jimmy Johnson left. It's getting old now.
Most of us see a 10-12 yr multiple probowler/all pro.
Two words.
Larry and Allen.
Hmmmm...
Interior line play has been a weakness for this team for years.
We can't get any push on short yardage run plays and Romo is often pressured up the middle and has to do an Irish jig just to get the ball off.
DeCastro helps solve that.
He's a no brainer at 14.
Lemme guess, those who don't want us to take Decastro want Barron or Cox? We've not been able to hit on a Safety since Woody and you think we'll get this one right? You think Cox won't be another Spencer? The no brainer, money in the bank pick is Decastro... Now do I believe he will be there when we pick? Hell no.
How high is too high for maybe the best guard in a draft. Considering they never go this high, 12th? 10th?
Steve Hutchinson was drafted 17th, and some say DeCastro is the best guard to come out in the draft since him.
So, 14th isn't too high if you can get that kinda quality.
Mike Iupati was taken at 17 was that to high ?
I will put money on Philly taking him at 15
so we get to watch him beat up our D line for the next 10 years
Bumping up an old thread to embarrass other posters? You're lucky we don't have the Zone's newfangled infraction system around here.
BTW, isn't it a little early to scream "I told you so!" regarding DeCastro? The fact that he was unfortunate enough to get injured in pre-season does not mean Pittsburgh made a bad pick.
