I don't know why we haven't cut Vickers already. Thought it was a good signng at the time, but last year looked like he can't play anymore.

deon anderson in 2007, shaun chappas in 2011, Chris gronkowski UDFA 2010,

fiammetta, vickers...and the countless tight ends he has tried to find who could play the move f position.

btw clarence says vickers is not going to get cut.

Garrett wasnt the HC whenAnderson was brought in, and Gronskoski was never expected to be the "answer"

If Fiametta wouldnt have had the injury issues, he would have stayed here and Vickers wouldnt have been signed. His level of play was actually pretty good. Vickers on the other hand has been somewhat of a disappointment IMO.

This reminds me of madden. Where you can't start the season until you have at least 4 corners and two LDE's, but you have no cap room so you just start restructuring the holy shit out of random players and cutting anyone that doesn't create a cap hit.

That's interesting, Sheik, because a lot of times this team looks like it's playing Madden. Especially during the games on offense.

btw on a side note.

If vickers is cut, how many resources has garret spent trying to find a fullback/tight end who can block?

seriously its about 4 draft picks and 3 free agents and we are going to have to do it again this april?

and this is the guy people want finding the next franchise qb?

HELL YEAH!!! SCOTT MCGEE IS DA MAN! PROPS TO GARRETT! You don't know what the fuck you're talking about Theebs.

Deion anderson was drafted in 07 dbair.

laz? what. We have gone through a ton of tight end/fullbacks.

dumping a 2nd rounder in fasano and using a 2 on bennett, then dumping him.

signing vet fb's, drafting fb's.

how hard is it to find a player who fits what you want out of that position? Does it take this long to manage that position?

Lousaka polite was a good fullback for awhile after he left here. Just like fasano has been a solid player and so has scott chandler.

at what point can we find players who fit these spots?

Parcells tried an antiquated blocking FB running game that, IMO, just does not work anymore. Lusaka Polite was a solid FB and if this were the 1980's, he would be kicking Ewoks, to clear running lanes. But other than Murray's success, which has more to do with Murray's vision and physical style, the 2000's Dallas running game has not generated much success at all with run-philosophies which were popular and successful in the 80's and 90's. The defenses are bigger faster and much more well informed of where a simple handoff and FB blocking path will go. Vickers was successful because of the play calling and running play designs. Steve Young said on Michael Kay Show on ESPN radio in New York that the Niners make very creative running plays, it's not that they run more, but they run effectively. In 2011, there were games where Gore averaged 2 ypc and 3 ypc, with a very weak passing game (Alex Smith) and they still kept running Gore (culminating with the NFC championship loss that year). The read option has more to do with an advanced run philosophy that keeps very athletic defensive players from being able to predict the path of the runner at the LOS (whether it turns into a pass play or not).
Jason will keep looking for Moose Johnston the player every year to resurrect the 90's success but continue to turn up ineffective running stats because he is not putting any interest, patience, or modern invention into that part of the offense.

Polite was good for years after he left here. Richie anderson was good in 03 and 04.

We used the fullback differently under parcells/payton/sporano than what garrett has tried.

in 05 parcells really tried to use 3 tight ends with one as the move. Dan campbell wasnt the same after the injury in 04 the year we tried to implent that but couldnt because of campbell's injury. Then brett pierce got hurt, and so did flo. The offense tanked after that.

Looking back on it, WTF was John Garrett (or Jason too) thinking when they were so convinced Fasano was too dumb to play?

Not like Fasano is great, but he's solid enough and he's proven he can play in the league. Seriously, I wonder what the story was behind that.

I really think that plus Bennett doing better in NY his first year than he ever did here is a big reason why Jerry sent John packing.

take it one step further, they had scott chandler on this roster twice and let him go both times. Why?

he has turned out to be a better version of what jon phillips was supposed to be. both were inexpensive so it wasnt money.

Fasano was drafted to take the spot that sean ryan was actually drafted to do the season before but flamed out.

Fasano was one of the guys and would have been a solid player here in 08 and going forward and he would have helped that terrible locker room that bennett helped to poison in 08.

oh well.

actually no one knows, there were all kinds of stories. didnt know the offense, couldnt contribute on special teams, wasnt a good blocker and my favorite that he was injury proned and his shoulder wouldn't hold up.

I thought the story was that they thought he wasn't smart enough and they didn't think he'd ever be able to learn the whole playbook. For some reason I clearly remember that. Seems like it was Babe or Brad Sham or someone credible who said it.

I'm not even a big Bennett hater, but yeah, Fasano was plenty good and was cheap, too. Of course Bennett was more athletic, but Garrett either didn't want to or couldn't figure out a way to get him the ball anyway. The whole thing is a real headscratcher.

And back to Vickers, I really think he's just too beat up to play anymore. Hey, he's a fullback, it happens. But I can't imagine why we'd spend 1.3 mil or whatever it is on him this year.
