I have a bad feeling about Wilbur and don't really know why. Everything you read about his is glowing. I think it's just that he doesn't really strike me as a true pass rushing OLB. More of an all around guy that'd probably fit better in a 4-3......or inside in a 3-4.

To be fair, Newman was a 25 year old matched up against 19-21 year olds.
And Newman was ranked real high because of his return skills - which we rarely utilized.

Suggs is out for the year and Polamalu sucks. Great plan
I don't have a bad feeling about him, but I don't see him as some gem that we stole like so many are saying, either. He's a typical fourth round OLB... I don't see what makes him a better prospect than a guy like Victor Butler.I have a bad feeling about Wilbur and don't really know why. Everything you read about his is glowing. Newman makes no plays, yeah he's only averaging 4 picks a year since 2007, only three years in his career did he have less than 4 picks in a season.
outside of two amazing years by Bailey Newman made more "plays" for us than Bailey does.
Newman's not a good corner anymore but making plays has never been his problem. He has produced turnovers as consistently as any corner in the league.
Get over it he was a better player than Suggs or Polamalu. I wonder how thrilled we would have been with ballsohard from 05-09 when he didn't make it into double digit sacks even once. He averages like 9 sacks a year. That's Greg Ellis territory. wooooo. get off the hype machine.

I thought Newman was the most overrated player we've had here in a long time. He wasn't worth the 5th overall pick at all either. He gave up too many plays, hardly ever made any, and he was injured way too often. That's how I'll remember him. I am so glad he's finally gone to our minor league team - The Bengals.
Hindsight draft...
9th pick was (Minnesota Vikings) Kevin Williams DT Oklahoma State
10th pick was (Baltimore Ravens) Terrell Suggs DE/LB Arizona State
16th pick was (Pittsburgh Steelers) Troy Polamalu S USC
Could you imagine our current D with Suggs or Polamalu ???
Newman has never impacted games or a team the way Polamalu has or even Suggs has recently.
I was wondering where your super homering was. Newman was a solid CB. I was not a fan of drafting a player his age that high.

If Polamalu sucks then what term describes our current safeties?
Polamalu - 7-time Pro Bowler, 5-time All Pro, 2010 Defensive Player of the Year, 2-time Superbowl champ, NFL 2000 All Decade Team, Voted 6th best player in NFL by peers in 2011.
Suggs - 5-time Pro Bowler, 1 time All Pro, 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, 2003 Defensive Rookie of the Year, Voted 40th best player in NFL by peers in 2011.
Newman - 2-time Pro Bowler, Released by Dallas Cowboys in 2012, not voted in the Top 100 players by peers in 2011.
Yeah, that's a 3-way tie.
