Babe Laufenberg @cbs11babe

RB Ryan Williams has been pursued by roughly 10 teams to put on their active roster. Turned them all down. Will Cowboys need him this week?

Conspiracy theory:

What if he's been told in confidence that were not resigning Murray so use this year to heal up and you'll likely be our starter in 2015.

Would be a pretty big risk on his part.

Then next year comes and they draft Melvin Gordon or sign Adrian Peterson and they are all "Oooh, Yeah, sorry about that Ryan."

This is what I think.

It's far fetched because you'd be expecting Williams not to say anything publically or for Murray to find out somehow and risk locker room chemistry.

Odds are more likely the story is BS than it is my conspiracy theory is true

They might not have had to actually tell him that. Maybe he is smart enough to see that for himself. He also saw first hand what a knucklehead Randle was this season and if he likes it here, he probably can see a genuine opportunity

Eh, not buying it. He could go join a real NFL roster and get some real playing time this year and come back to us next year if he really wanted to.

More likely he's just stupid.

Yeah, I mean it COULDNT possibly be that he likes it here and might want to see how it plays out for him here huh?

Honestly I doubt its 10 teams, but if nobody was offering him a multi yr deal to leave I could see why he might turn it down.

He's been on a practice squad all year. You think teams are saying multi-year contract or nothing?

No, but he probably would be. If he likes it here, why leave for a 1yr deal where he MIGHT go somewhere for part of a season and get some PT. He'd have to learn another new system and might eventually get replaced by another guy on said roster anyway.

I thought the whole premise was that he wanted to start here next year... Now he's demanding multi-year deals?

Again, he hasn't been active for a single NFL game all year. He's lucky to get a call from someone. Teams would laugh at him if he started making demands.

What's funny is I was just thinking my man crush on Ryan was in vain since the Cardinals, who are so desperate for RB help, didn't even bother snatching him off our practice squad.

Because PS squad guys make like 60k a year IIRC.

He'd be turning down a lot of coin just because he "likes" it in Dallas.

They cant "snatch" him. He'd have to agree to go there.

I thought I read he was getting 100k from us.

Not sure what the league veteran minimum is, but he'd have got that on a prorated basis had he signed a 1yr deal with no incentives or anything.
