I don't get their line of thinking. Yeah, stock piling picks is great but is that all we can do is 7th round picks? If we're going to make a trade make a trade for a player who can help us now.

We aren't a well run team. We have no direction or plan. I guess you take what you can get when you're run by a ******.

I agree. I'd be for these trades if they were for 5th round picks or higher. But really... is there much difference between a 7th roound pick and that of a UFDA?

At least we got something.

And we're probably going to fill that 52nd spot with someone..... hopefully not a TE.

Broaddus: Rosario Move More About Faith In Andre Smith (There's your answer to the trade)

Bryan Broaddus Football Analyst/Scout

IRVING, Texas – When the front office decided to keep five tight ends on the active roster, I had a feeling there was potentially a different plan in place, and Monday morning we learned what that plan was.

Dante Rosario was traded to the Chicago Bears for a conditional seventh round selection in the 2014 NFL Draft. Rosario was a player that my sources around the league were telling me was being shopped, along with Sean Lissemore and Kevin Kowalski. Lissemore was moved to San Diego on Sunday and Kowalski onto the street.

Rosario was brought in to be a jack-of-all-trades type of a player, a stunt man that did those dirty jobs that no one else wanted to do. He had a special teams history with Rich Bisaccia from the Chargers and that alone made me believe that he had a real shot to stay on this roster, but his play in the preseason was less than spectacular.

This move is more about the type of training camp that Andre Smith was having. Smith was projected more as a blocker that was too slow and clumsy to be any type of a threat in this “12” personnel package, but he proved he was far from that type of tag. He was able to get down the field and become a reliable target.

There were several practices in Oxnard and in the Cincinnati game where we observed soft hands and nimble moves on routes. His ability to sustain and stay square on blocks at the point was noticeable as well. He gives them some power at the point of attack that the other tight ends don’t provide.

After the roster reduction on Saturday, I spoke with several teams that were disappointed that Smith was not on the street to be claimed. The overall belief was he was much better than just some ordinary tight end that you get for camp. He had some qualities of the type of player that you could play down after down and not struggle at the position. I like what they were able to do in moving Rosario, which was something they worked hard on, but to keep Andre Smith was a real bonus in my book.

Gonna be tough for him to break 15 receptions for us now, right Middy?

People complain when we cut players and don't get anything in return. We trade a player we were going to cut for a 7th and people still complain. Sign a guy off the street on June 3, figure out he's not your best option, trade him for a draft pick three months later. What is not to like?

I'm with you in that it's a good thing we got some kind of value for two guys (Lissemore and Rosario) that in years past we wouldn't have. My issue is with the overall 53 and the philosophy behind it.

The last time Jerry felt we were oh so close and just needed to shore up the Special Teams was 2009. He did not bring in a single free agent for a visit and had one of the worst drafts in NFL history. Now he thinks trading for a guy who was about to be cut and being the only team to put in a claim on another is going to be the Special Teams boost this team needs. Meanwhile, we are dangerously thin at Guard and Defensive Tackle.

I'm okay with these last two trades, they are marginal impact moves at best. It's the whole strategy regarding the roster that pisses me off.
