IRVING, Texas – Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan does a lot of things well. Lying isn’t one of them.

Take, for example, his answer when asked how often he’d mentioned his beef with the Browns to the Dallas defense this week.

“Honestly, I’m going to say none. Honestly. Honestly,” Ryan said. “Honestly, I’m going to say no. Honestly, I haven’t talked about it. Honestly, I don’t know how that got out there. Honestly, I don’t know.”

How about his dishonest answer?

“I’ve addressed a few things,” Ryan deadpanned.

Yes, this one is personal to Ryan. He declared that while the rest of the Cowboys were still celebrating last week’s win over the Eagles.

The Browns fired Ryan along with head coach Eric Mangini a couple of years ago. While Ryan has fondness for several players on the Browns’ roster, he’s bitter toward the franchise.

“Absolutely. I spent a lot of time in those offices, too,” Ryan said. “In fact, I slept in them for seven straight weeks when I said, ‘Hey, I’m not going home until we win a game.’ I’ll never say that again. ...

“Any time you pour everything you have into it and apparently management didn’t see it as if it was good enough, of course it’s personal.”

Ryan has made that clear to his players this week, but that’s far from their primary reason for motivation. If a 4-5 record doesn’t get the Cowboys focused, they’re in trouble anyway.

“It’s personal for him,” defensive end Jason Hatcher said. “But every game is personal because we need this win.”

Added inside linebacker Bruce Carter: “We don’t want to make it too personal and get out of our game.”

The Browns went 5-11 in 2009 and 2010, Ryan’s two seasons as Cleveland’s defensive coordinator. His bitterness stems from his belief that Mangini didn’t get a fair chance to finish a rebuilding job, not that the Browns didn’t consider Ryan as a head coach.

“Eric is a good friend of mine,” Ryan said. “He hired me to do a job. Hell, I did it and got everybody fired anyway. I don’t know why, but I wasn’t in charge of that decision. But I plan on doing something about it.”

Ryan really looked like he was "mad" today huh.

Gave Brandon Weedon one of the most comfprtable games he's had all year.

This guy is a clown. If his last name was Ryan I seriously doubt he'd have an NFL job, if any kind.

I don't understand with this concept of rushing the passer with only 3, against rookie QBs. He did the exact same thing against the Seahawks' rookie QB Wilson, and did it partially with Foles, I'm only more certain that he will do it against Griffin this coming Thursday.

He's done it all year. He's a f'in idiot.

Whats the purpose for having all these quality CB's if you are gonna play passive defensive styles and play DB's so far off the ball?

The thing thats really irritating about those rush 3 cover 8 garbage calls he makes is not only do they almost never get to close to the QB, but the WR/TE or RB ends up being wide open downfield anyway. I dont see how this can happen so often when you have 8 guys covering 4 or at best 5 guys.

Yeah, Weeden had time to read War and Peace in the pocket several times, especially in the first half. Not sure how that's even possible

Cowboys defense against rookie QB's this year:

1) Russell Wilson 75% comp , 1 td, zero picks QB rating of 112.1
2) Nick Foles 69% comp %, 1 td, 1 pick, 85.3
3) Brandon Weedon 57%, 2 tds, 0 picks, 93.8 QB rating

Combined 6 sacks for those 3 games.

That folks is lousy defense

Only 5 teams have forced few turnovers than Dallas. We also rank near the bottom of the league in sacks.

9 individual players have at least as many interceptions as the entire Cowboys defense.

Tim Jennings by himself has twice as many picks (8) as we do (4)

When Dblair is killing the team, it really is time to stop and think how bad we really are.

Cardinals defense is for real. Whisenhunt's complete inability to coach QB's continues to kill that team. That and an offensive line that not even Jerry could makes excuses for.

Yep, our defense sucks. Maybe I should become a fat blowhard and grow my hair out. I could get just as much as attention as he does.

Defense just came off its best performance against the Eagles in terms of turnovers. Created what should have been a game ending sack/fumble against the Browns but the offense fucked that up.

Lost our starting middle linebacker, two starting D-lineman, starting safety and it’s till a top 10 defense. The Cowboy have 5 wins and i would argue that the defense is the reason for those. Far from perfect, but not nearly as bad as some make it out to be.

I can't explain our infatuation with rushing three on third and long. Has that ever worked? The only reason it worked yesterday is because Alfie missed a wide open receiver.

They explained why in the game.

They don't trust the safeties and keep them the hell back there.
