ReutersCiting “several people familiar with the Redskins’ thinking,” the Washington Post reported Wednesday morning that Mike Shanahan’s team will make an aggressive bid to sign quarterback Peyton Manning after he’s released by the Colts.

On SportsCenter Tuesday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter listed the Redskins, along with the Cardinals, Dolphins, and Jets, as the four most “legitimate” suitors for Manning.

Per the Post‘s Mike Jones, the Redskins are “poised to make an aggressive effort” to land Manning, and “will pursue him intently.” The Skins are reportedly already comfortable with the medical risks involved.

A person with knowledge of the organization’s thinking also told Jones that the Redskins will turn their attention to trading up in the draft for Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, if the Manning pursuit comes up empty. It’s also possible the Redskins would pair Manning with a young passer, and groom him behind the 36-year-old future Hall of Famer.

Washington probably wouldn’t be inclined to use the No. 6 overall pick on a quarterback if it signed Manning. But Oklahoma State’s Brandon Weeden, Arizona State’s Brock Osweiler, Michigan State’s Kirk Cousins, and underrated B.J. Coleman of Tennessee-Chattanooga could be options in the later rounds.

I wonder if he'd lean more towards not wanting to play against little bro twice a year or wanting to. Either way, with that family I bet that plays HEAVY in his decision.

I doubt he goes there, particularly because he can roll into a place like SF and win the super bowl immediately.

He has played in a dome for his entire career, so I'm not sure how big of a factor that will play.

I think Peyton goes to a team where there's a good OC and a good core of players. He doesn't want to not have anyone to throw to and have struggles with the OL.

I also think Reggie Wayne will go where Peyton goes. Washington is an option but I'd have to say Miami, Seattle, would be a better fit. Seattle has a good run game and OL, and Miami has Brandon Marshall. Their OL is solid so it's a good fit.

Just think if Reggie Wayne went there to play opposite Marshall. Arizona has a chance as well but their OL is going to be a mess this year. They need tackle help.

It's going to be interesting to see where he goes because Peyton will take a long hard look at the teams, owners, and coaching staff before making any decisions. It might be a drawn out process.

Now that I think more about it, Arizona makes a lot of sense. Great weather, indoor stadium, and best WR in the league. They have a good defense and running game. They could focus on O line stuff in FA and the draft if they know that Peyton will be their QB.

And they play in division that would allow them immediate success.

I was thinking the same thing... I'd imagine he wouldn't want to. Same reason I think he might stay away from the Jets.. Bad enough he stole the spotlight from Eli all his life.. going to NYC would do it again.

I hope he stays out of the division... I still think he has a few more good years left in him.

???

They're in the bottom half of the league.

Wasn't their RB out a good portion of the season? I'm sure D's were just stacking the box anyway cuz there was little threat of solid passing from any of their QBs.

I don't care either way though. He'd make Arizona a contender. They'd be just as good or better than those 10-win Colts teams, and they'd actually have a living/breathing coach. It shouldn't be tough to find a suitable version of Addai.

Beanie Wells stepped up some last year. They also have 2011 2nd round pick Ryan Williams, from a real Virginia university, who missed the year with injury.

Those "10 win Colts teams" had one sure fire hall of fame WR and another borderline hall of fame WR, a hall of fame LT, borderline hall of fame C, a hall of fame DE, one of the best defensive players in the game (Sanders) before injuries ruined his career and Tony Dungy. Manning would make the Cardinals A LOT better but you can't compare them to most of his Colts teams.

Like I said, I really don't care either way because neither situation will help Dallas, but you're way too quick to write off that Cardinals team. They have solid players at a variety of positions, and they play in a winnable division.

It's also entirely possible that Saturday and Wayne and maybe even Garcon go together with Manning as a package.

And the 2010 Colts did not have Sanders, Dungy, or much else going on for them. Arizona will automatically be a much better situation.

You said "10 win Colts teams" guess I'm slow but it sure sounded like you were talking about a few of their teams.

Don't forget they had two damn good TEs. Manning would make the Dolphins even better than he would with the Cardinals.
