DAMN!!! And we got them coming after next week. SHIT! This is the thing that they'll need to jumpstart them. Moss always killed us!

This is being reported on ESPN. Nothing on NFL.COM. Stay tuned.

New England Patriots are in talks to trade wide receiver Randy Moss to the Minnesota Vikings, Foxsports.com reported on Tuesday, citing unnamed sources.

The deal is being held up because Moss would have to sign an extension with the Vikings, according to the report. The seven-time Pro Bowl receiver is in the final year of his four-year deal with New England and has voiced his displeasure at his limbo status.

Although the Patriots crushed the Dolphins on Monday night, Moss did not have a catch -- the first time that's happened for him in a New England uniform. The report did not specify what the Patriots would get for giving up their primary deep threat.

Moss, 33, started his career with the Vikings after being taken in the first round of the 1998 draft. He led the league in touchdown receptions three times for Minnesota before heading to Oakland in 2005.

The Vikings have been looking for help at receiver for quarterback Brett Favre, but they were unable to work out a deal for the Chargers' Vincent Jackson.

The Pats would be stupid to trade Moss. We'll see then how Welker does with double teams and having the opposing team's best CB covering him.

The deal is being held up because Moss would have to sign an extension with the Vikings, according to the report. Contract talks have not even begun, a league source told Profootballtalk.com Tuesday night.

The seven-time Pro Bowl receiver is in the final year of his four-year deal with New England and has voiced his displeasure at his limbo status.

"When you have done so much and put so much work in, it kind of feels like I am not wanted," Moss said on Sept. 6. "I am taking that in stride and playing my final year out and whatever the future holds is what it holds, but it is kind of a bad feeling -- feeling not wanted. It is not like my production has gone down."

A few days later he apologized for the timing of his comments and said he loves playing in New England.

Although the Patriots crushed the Dolphins on Monday night, Moss did not have a catch -- the first time that's happened for him in a New England uniform. The Foxsports.com report did not specify what the Patriots would get for giving up their primary deep threat.

The Vikings have been looking for help at receiver for quarterback Brett Favre, but they were unable to work out a deal for the Chargers' Vincent Jackson.

Moss has only nine catches for 139 yards and three TDs through four games this season. That comes after hauling in 83 passes for 1,264 yards and 13 touchdowns last season. His career year came in his first with the Pats, when he caught 98 passes for 1,493 yards and 23 TDs.

Belichick is a realist, he knows a Super Bowl is highly unlikely this season and he is taking every opportunity possible to get better tomorrow. New England was never going to sign Moss to a big contract because that is not their MO, they let superstars walk and reload with good talent. They have enough talent on offense to make due without Moss for the rest of the season and will probably pick up some decent free agents in the offseason like they typically do.

Great move for the Pats. They gave up a 5th for Moss and are looking to get a 3rd in return.

That's what good organizations do.

Brad Childress on possible Randy Moss trade: "I'm watching film"
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on October 5, 2010 10:35 PM ET

Welcome back to Randy Moss night at PFT, sponsored by Bill Simmons' Twitter account. Here's the latest:

ESPN's Adam Schefter and others have backed up the report from FOX's Jay Glazer that the Vikings and Patriots are talking about a possible Randy Moss trade. No deal appears imminent, however, and Florio reported Moss and the Vikings have not talked about a possible contract as of 8PM ET.

Our old friend Tom Curran, now of Comcast SportsNet New England, got a hold of Vikings coach Brad Childress Tuesday night.

"I don't know anything about it. I'm watching film. I'm just sitting here watching the Jets and Patriots play," Childress said.

(It's worth noting Childress also told his coaching staff to clumsily lie about players visiting Brett Favre in Mississippi back in August.)

Curran has two Patriots sources that shot down reports of a deal. He admits things could ultimately change, but believes there is nothing brewing at this time. Curran spoke with Moss after Monday night's game and Moss was "more engaging" than he'd ever seen him.

Other reports out of Boston suggest a different attitude from Moss. Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald reports that Moss requested a trade after the team's Week One victory. Gary Tanguay of Comcast has sources claiming Moss and coach Bill Belichick "had words" on Tuesday.

Finally, Mike Reiss of ESPNBoston.com wrote something that also popped into my mind. A Moss deal only makes sense from the Patriots perspective if the team gets a Richard Seymour-like bounty in return: a first-round pick.

It's unlike the Patriots to dump a player at less than full value, no matter how much that player wants to get paid.

UPDATE: Glazer says there was trade talk even before Monday night's Patriots game.

Pats say "there is no trade" Yeah Right lol
Posted by Mike Florio on October 5, 2010 8:53 PM ET
Rumor quickly became reality on Tuesday night, with FOX's Jay Glazer reporting that the Patriots are close to shipping receiver Randy Moss back to the Vikings.

Now, the Minnesota and Boston media are pursuing the story like Homer chasing a chocolate-filled Uter with a wet towel.

Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports that the Patriots are saying "there is no trade." In this regard, conjugation could be critical. They're not saying "there will be no trade." They're only saying "there is no trade." And Glazer hasn't reported that there "is" a trade.

Rapoport also reports that he's told a trade is not "done," but he confirms that a trade is being discussed.

Albert Breer, formerly of the Boston Globe and now with NFL Network (congrats, by the way, Mr. Breer) reports that "no one is shooting this down, when given the chance to" and "omething's happening."

So stay tuned. We'll be on this thing all night if need be.

After all, that kid has bosoms.

Per ESPN, the deal will be done today.

And usually Schefter is correct.

This really sucks.

And of course this has to happen two weeks before we play them.

That game is going to be critical. We'll need that, not only because we need wins, but for all the obvious tie-breakers and such.

Yup, it's a must win just like the Giants and Packers games are.

We can't afford to have more than 4 losses in the NFC Conference.
