A Jacksonville couple is facing charges that they allowed a registered sex offender and another man to sexually assault their then-9-year-old daughter and did nothing to stop him.
Christopher Scott Perry and his wife, Mary Perry, allowed registered sex offender, Robert Goeing Young to live with them. According to the testimony of a Department of Children and Families investigator, Young slept in the same bed as the 9-year-old and repeatedly sexually assaulted her; all with the full knowledge of the girl’s parents.
Investigator Michael McClure says he visited the home after receiving a report of Young sleeping in the same bed as the young girl. He found all of Young’s possessions in the daughter’s room along with gifts he gave her. One toy license plate said “Uncle Robert Loves (the young girl’s name)” and was decorated with hearts.
The girl and her two brothers were put into foster care and through further conversations with the girl McClure discovered the extent of the alleged assault. McClure says the 9-year-old girl told him that “Uncle Robert” touched her “all the time” and that she had told her parents and grandmother about the abuse. She also said her parents put a lock on her bedroom door and would lock her in the bedroom with Young.
Mary Perry has pleaded guilty to child neglect and conspiracy to sexual battery on a child and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Her husband Christopher Perry is facing charges of sexual battery, conspiracy to commit sexual battery, molestation charges and child neglect.
Mary Perry testified in her husband’s trial Wednesday, saying neither of them did anything to stop the sexual abuse of their daughter because she “just didn’t care.”
Robert Young is awaiting trial.
