Poor Jason Garrett. The Cowboys' head coach never gets an ounce of credit ... mostly because his club seems to disappoint everyone. You would think the Cowboys went 4-12 in each of the last two years, not that they were 8-8 and playing for the division title in the last week of each campaign. Garrett might not be the right man for the job in Dallas, but has he gotten a fair shake? That's a fair question.

You have to win. That ranking is probably about right. I think Rex Ryan is to high and I would switch Coughlin and Jim Harbaugh. Coughlin is a great coach, one of the best.

The main reason Garrett is ranked even this high (18) is because most of the head coaches who are ranked lower have no or almost no track record as an NFL Head Coach.

It would have made sense not to rank the rookie and near rookie head coaches at all (... just give 'em an incomplete until we have a sense of how good they really are).

Had the inexperienced head coaches not been ranked, Garrett would have been ranked as a bottom-tier coach.

He's been here for fucking 6 years, 4 of which as a co-HC. He has a top 10 QB, and a top 5 WR-tandem, and a top 3 TE. Yeah he has a crap OL, which was of his making, and yet he can only managed 8 wins in each consecutive seasons. He's had more than his fair share. Too many HCs/OCs have done far more than Garrett, while having less talent-wise.

How many coaches from 19-32 have iced their own kicker? What about called timeout before the half, letting the other team score?

Or not once but twice settling for 50 yard FGs at the end of the game with almost a minute left... Just letting that clock burn off. And the second time in very windy conditions in Baltimore.

I have no idea how anyone could ask if he's gotten a fair shake.

If anything the media give him a pass... Locally they definitely do. Nationally they're at least a little more objective.

IMO, Garrett's game day strategy errors are the most important indicators of Garrett's limitations.

It isn't clear how much of the blame for poor/inadequate personnel decisions is on Garrett and how much is on Jerry. We don't really know how much blame Garrett should get for the crappy OL and how much of that is on Jerry.

But we do know that the game day mistakes fall squarely on Garrett.

Even Jerry knows it. That's why Callahan will call the plays. Jerry hopes that with fewer distractions, Garrett will make fewer critical game day mistakes.

He didnt ice the kicker.

What would you call it then? He called timout as Bailey was kicking the ball. Do you have another term for it?

The kick was good. The next kick he missed and we lost the game.

Fucking Red Headed ******

Yes, he didn't call a timeout as his kicker hit a game winning fg.

We imagined that.

Welcome back, Rowdy.

Hey asshat, pretty sure that was assistant coaches behind Garrett in the screenshots telling him to call a TO, including the ST coach.

And Garrett called the timeout since he's the head coach.

Too high.

Agreed. Is there any reason why Garrett should be ranked anything higher than 25? IMO he's probably even behind some of the guys coming in new.

The only reason he's over 20 is because Troy Aikman likes him. I can't think of another reason. No innovation, little to no discipline, terrible clock and game management that's lost games, and at times mind-bogglingly self-destructive play-calling.

Much of the problems with the team stem from Jerry Jones's interference, but Garrett isn't helping.

The vast majority of the guys ranked 19-32 are very inexperienced and haven't done anything yet. That's the reason they aren't ranked any higher. It isn't that the raters have a high opinion of Garrett .... it is more that the raters don't have opinions on the very inexperienced head coaches.

It's a sad state of affairs when Jason Garrett is the 18th best coach in the league.

True, but the way I look at it, he's really about 18th out of the 20 (or so) head coaches who can be meaningfully ranked.

So, basically, he's at the bottom.
