Also... interesting tweet from Steve Dennis:

@cbs11swd
Listened to Jerry on radio-Loves Romo & Garrett-but-made his postion clear-after 6 yrs together, he wants new off. voice/playcaller. #dfwsp

Well about fucking time Jerry. Still need to ditch Garrett. Romo hasn't had a decent playcaller Since Sparano.

Fositing an OC on a coach who doesn't want one. Yep, he's a puppet.

idk if he doesn't want one.

Jones has said publicly he likes his HC to call plays. Maybe Jason wanted one but has been shut down til now.

why would he want less power/control? he's an offensive guy to begin with. what will he be doing if not calling the plays? sitting in on the defensive meetings?

What does any non-coordinator head coach do? Provide a direction for the team, delegate to skilled coordinators and make tough decisions in-game.

Well when you conduct business like you do here, Jerry, and then try some shit like this, you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

1. Vela is a big homer. He does good work, but he's always worn rose-colored glasses.

2. Garrett already said at his PC that it was best for him to keep calling plays. Would be best for Tony and everyone.

unlike say Jimmy Johnson, he's never been that guy. he's a specialist, not a walk-around coach who has his hands in everything. If Norv comes in, I seriously wonder what Garrett's role will be on game day other than patting players on the back during pre-game stretching.

idk whether Garrett is that guy or not but I think he should be.

There's all sorts of stuff he should be doing rather than worrying about what play to call next.

I am pretty sure Garrett will still have his hands in the gameplan and playcalling. Logic would say that the more brain power you have at work, the better the product will be. He can spend more time with all parts of the team and manage the game better. He couldn’t argue with the refs because he had to call the next play. I would think this would be a positive move that most Garrett haters would embrace.

He's lost his worth as an OC.

As soon as suit wearing and table manners are second nature to these players, what does Garrett actually offer?

Except that Callahan was brought in for the exact same reason: helping Garrett with game plans. "More brainpower" didn't amount to much in the long run.

Why does logic say that the more brainpower the better? What? More like too many cooks spoiling the broth.

Just get one proven successful person to do the job and let him work. Hint: He doesn't have flaming orange hair.

When you go down the list of coaches who routinely make boneheaded moves on gameday, mostly with regard to challenges, timeouts, go-for-it decisions and clock management - it is almost always coordinator HCs. Reid, McCarthy, Garrett and co lead the list.
