Marcus Spears: Why Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne could help DeMarcus Ware break sack record

According to Dallas Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears, the addition of Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne ought to drastically improve the Cowboys’ defense in 2012, especially if the duo maintains the impressive showing they put up so far in the off-season.

“I think they’ll help us a bunch. Brandon is proven and Morris has all the tools. I’m an LSU guy so I was happy we picked Morris,” Spears said. “Hopefully both these guys work out. Based on what we’ve seen, they’re going to make a difference.”

Spears explained that having a more athletic secondary will allow feared pass-rusher DeMarcus Ware to potentially break the single season sack record. Ware came close last season, falling three short of Michael Strahan’s record 22.5 sacks.

“I think he’s the best defensive player in the league, and I think he’s going to play at a high level for a long time,” Spears said. “He could possibly break that record this season especially with the new guys in the back covering. He might have a little bit more time to get to the quarterback. I would love to see it happen because if anybody deserves it he does.”
