New Malcolm Jenkins deal worth up to $40.5 million | ProFootballTalk

The Eagles announced a contract extension with safety Malcolm Jenkins on Monday, something that many expected to happen as Jenkins moved into the final year of his deal after an excellent 2015 season.

That deal called for Jenkins to make $5.5 million and, according to multiple reports, the extension will add $35 million to that total. Jenkins now stands to make $40.5 million over the life of the deal and his salary for the 2016 season will jump up to $10 million.

Reports also peg the guarantees in the deal at $21 million with Joel Corry of CBSSports.com reporting that $16 million is fully guaranteed at signing.

Those numbers bump Jenkins up to the top tier of NFL safeties and the Eagles surely hope that his play will continue to put him there on the field as well. Jenkins is the fifth player to sign a new deal with the team since the end of the season with defensive end Fletcher Cox a likely sixth addition to the list based on word from the team.

How much is Eric Berry going to get now?

This seems excessive for Jenkins.

His contract Is going to be tricky though. He is certainly one of the top safeties in the league, but his cancer history is something I don't think can be ignored either.
