I've been critical of the front office over the last few seasons about the lack of direction, or or identity. We've been loaded with weapons on offense for years now, but there's been no real attempt to seriously address the weaknesses on defense or the oline. Newman had been poor for years, James, while serviceable, could have and should have been a part time player as early as 2010. Same with the offensive line. The year the new stadium was hosting the SB, all you heard was how it was possible Dallas could be in that game. Anyone with half a brain new that wasnt happening. The offensive line was terrible. Instead of replacing the stiffs, Jerry rolled the dice with garbage and sold it to anyone that was willing to buy his used car salesman act.

A move like this would make me feel like the organization understands the time is now. Desperation is what the organization has been lacking. The sense of urgency.

Its nice to see, if this rumor is true, that the team is going to do whatever possible to at least try and put the team in position to win now. Would I like to see that urgency in other areas of the roster? Sure, but I'll take this as a good sign going forward.

sheik this wouldnt be desperation, this would be good fortune falling into our lap. This team for better or worse has been rebuilt in the past 18 months....its a new team......that is why the window closing stuff is odd and stupid......

another interesting thing is wallace doesnt need to attend camp, he can just show up the monday of week 1 and the steelers have to pay him his 2.7 million tender he signed in full. So the steelers have some time and dont have to hurry. they just gave antonio brown a big contract basically as a F U to wallace and his I want fitzgerald money demands......so they are covered at the position.

its interesting. Probably nothing will happen but its still fun to talk about.

We have two chips to move in players.....probably spears and jenkins......and hopefully they would never even consider anything before a 4th...

The thing that i LOVE bout the cowboys is their youth. Yes players like Romo Witten Ware are in their 30s or about to, But the core of this team is around mid 20's. So Jerry is building something while theyre in discussions of superbowl talk now in media, they're built to be there for years to come. Next yr if the first pick in the draft isnt a S or a OLB ill google how to build a bomb and....nvm lol

Think he means in terms of a second contract. Noway in hell is Dez going anywhere until his rookie contract is done

Definetly no second contract for Dez if Wallace was acquired.

I highly doubt he'd even play out his rookie deal. Didn't he hire DR this offseason, or am I thinking of Jenkins?

Dez deserves to get paid eventually, I'm not sure he'd play out his rookie deal and be a good soldier if Miles and Wallace are playing on multi million dollar/year deals, paying them as top WRs, when Dez is clearly the most gifted of the bunch.

I'd probably agree with you if Romo, Witten, and Ware were all 26. Their careers are winding down. You take those 3 away today, this is a 4-6 win team, IMO.

If this team doesn't win a Super Bowl this year, or next year, it's likely that this core won't win one at all. That'd be a shame.

In this case, I think desperation/urgency is a must. You can't play the wait and see approach any longer. You have to hit with your early draft picks, you have to acquire the best talent possible when the opportunity presents itself.

I think romo/ware/witten have at least 3 seasons of top level production left.....probably more from romo if he is not injured.

getting good players is the name of the game. If we could get him for a reasonable deal and sign him it would be fine with me....anything more than a 4 and its stupid.

he missed all of ota's, the workouts and now he is missing camp. they are installing a new offense under Todd Haley.....he has to sign his tender at 2.7 to play this year or they wont deal with him....he is not getting a long term deal anymore.......If neither side breaks the steelers will probably want to move him as quickly as possible to end the distraction.....

This is the key right now. The steelers are a no BS organization, they did the same thing with Burress then Holmes. Wallace wont be a steeler anymore hopefully he's a cowboy

i dont think a 4th or lower is reasonable..a 3rd is a great deal

While I love Dez, and I hate the fact that our OL is in shambles, I do this deal if he can be had for a reasonable amount. I don't think there are any OL available right now for hire anyway, and Dez has shown to be volatile to a degree. I drop a 3rd on him and sign him to something like a 3 year 45 mill contract that's back loaded.

Wallace wants Vincent Jackson like money

Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee published a story in late March stating that Steelers unsigned restricted free agent receiver Mike Wallace was targeting Larry Fitzgerald money in long-term contract talks. The widely held immediate reaction was that Wallace had overvalued himself. Fitzgerald signed an eight-year, $120 million contract last August. His deal included $50 million guaranteed.

On Friday night, however, Alan Robinson of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review wrote that Wallace’s asking price is more in line with the five-year, $55.555 million contract signed by Bucs receiver Vincent Jackson during the spring. Jackson’s deal contains $26 million guaranteed.

And that’s a big difference.

Fitzgerald’s average annual value is $15 million, whereas Jackson’s is a more affordable $11.1 million. And Jackson got a lot less of his value guaranteed.

So while common perception has continued to be that Wallace wants to be paid like Fitz, his monetary demands may not be quite so exorbitant. Wallace is entering his age-26 season and commands heavy defensive attention even when he isn’t catching passes, opening up the field for others. Jackson and Fitzgerald do the same, but they are both 29.

The Steelers are expected to listen to trade offers for Wallace, and Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette has “guessed” that he might only cost a fourth-round pick. If the monetary price has come down, too, then perhaps a team looking for a playmaker will be willing to pay those costs, and the receiver nicknamed “60 Minutes” will be playing ball in a different locale in 2012.

it would be funny to watch how he goes from being a good player to a not good player by the media overnight if he were traded here.
