I think the simplicity will unshackle the aggressiveness and speed of the defensive talent overall. Not as much because Kiffin is installing his scheme, but because I see this style of defense as a progressive remedy to what ails the Dallas defensive secondary.
You're right, it should lead to less stupid mistakes where we beat ourselves. Which after last year will be a welcome change.
But the opposite side of it is that it's going to look simplistic and some fans are going to complain when a team gets yards running the same thing over and over... There'll be lots of griping about not adjusting, soft coverage, etc.
We ran the 3-4 wrong for years so it doesn't surprise me that Jerry will take a different path to running the Tampa 2 here. It's so important for him to be unconventional. I wish it was more important to win.
What makes you think Jerry will be "running" the defense or doing anything unconventional himself? He paid these two high-profile defensive coaches a lot... You think he's going to tell them what to do or something?
