theebs, I've sat through like 4 seminars where Carroll talked about his defense and how he uses the Tampa 2 scheme. Like all defenses (or offenses), coaches put their own spin on it. They would drop the DE's into Zone coverage so they bascially look like stand up 3-4 OLB's. He had 4 great LB's one year at USC so he slid a DE to DT and put Clay Matthews at a DE slash OLB position he called the "elephant".
The Seahawks Defense is very close to Kiffin's Tampa Bay defense a few years back. Same concepts, player sizes and skill sets.
