Cowboys don't dismiss idea of reuniting Urlacher with Marinelli, but 'it would be difficult' since that's Sean Lee's position
Stephen Jones said the Cowboys haven’t ruled out the idea of adding free agent linebacker Brian Urlacher because of his history with new defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli.
But the move may not be a fit because that’s Sean Lee’s position.
“Any time you’re talking about a Hall of Fame player in Urlacher, you don’t ever dismiss Hall of Famers, in my book,” Jones said Monday at the NFL owners meetings in Phoenix. “It would be difficult – he obviously plays what Sean Lee plays – to move everything around for a year. Doesn’t really make a lot of sense.
“But at the same time, you don’t ever rule anything out.”
Urlacher played middle linebacker for the Chicago Bears for the past 13 seasons, including the last three under Marinelli. For his career, Urlacher has 22 interceptions, 85 pass breakups, 11 fumbles forced, 15 fumble recoveries and 1,052 tackles.
