Haley: 4-3 is going to be awesome for Cowboys, Ware

Charles Haley is still a regular at Valley Ranch. During the season the former Cowboys All-Pro defensive end can occasionally be found on the practice field, assisting a current defensive lineman on a pass-rushing move.

When Haley was terrifying opposing quarterbacks in Dallas the team was running a 4-3 defensive scheme. With Monte Kiffin taking over the defense next season, the Cowboys will switch back to that alignment.

Asked Tuesday how that scheme will work with this current group of Cowboys, Haley responded that it’s “going to be awesome.”

“They have a strong secondary and they got a strong linebacking corps, and then they got mobile and agile defensive linemen,” Haley told Norm Hitzges on 1310 The Ticket [KTCK-AM]. “It simplifies the defense a lot. It makes you be able to react and not think. When you think, somebody’s getting up in your chin. When you’re in that reaction mode, if someone moves, you move.”

Having to think too much was one of the biggest knocks on the 3-4 base defense that Rob Ryan was implementing the previous two seasons. Haley seems to think that DeMarcus Ware will benefit from the change, one that will move him from an outside linebacker to a pass-rushing end like Haley was.

“I don’t know who’s going to be the two ends but for Ware, I think he’s going to be totally awesome because all of that other crap he can just throw out,” Haley said. “He doesn’t have to think about it. In a 4-3 there’s only so much a d-lineman has to think about.”

Haley, who has a record five Super Bowl rings, is one of 17 finalists in this year’s Hall of Fame class. Haley confirmed Tuesday that he will be in New Orleans for the Super Bowl, but because of his bipolar disorder, the Ring of Honor member said he isn’t getting his hopes up.

“I’m not going to worry about those things,” Haley said. “I’m going down there but I’m going down with one of my best friends and maybe some of my family. I was only going to go down there to have fun and enjoy the Super Bowl game.

“I have extreme ups and downs so if I start thinking about going in and get all excited about it and it doesn’t happen then the other side of the coin flips. I don’t want that in my life. I want to stay even keel. I want to enjoy the moment.”

I really don't care if the Cowboys run the 4-3,3-4 or the striker 5(obscure high school football reference)as long as I don't see guys running around like they have no clue what their assignment is.
It seemed like a lot of the players either were too stupid to get Ryan's scheme,or it was overly complicated.
Either way,we generated far too little pass rush, and too many shots of defensive guys wondering what the fuck just happened.
In the interest of fairness,I'd like to add the defense got little help from the offense, especially in the early parts of games.

On a completely unrelated note,I think "Red Headed Jesus" should be replaced by the nickname "Discount Belichik" cause it's fucking awesome, and shouldn't be wasted on a KSK Kommentator.

I knew Haley was crazy, but I didn't know he was bi polar. I guess it makes sense when you put it all together.
