Gosselin: "Cowboys still suck" (paraphrasing)

SportsDay columnist Rick Gosselin joined the Morning Rush on ESPN Radio in Austin this week to talk about the state of the Cowboys. Here are some highlights:

On what he learned from Cowboys OTAs:

Absolutely nothing. Until they put pads on, I don’t care what they do. All of these phenoms that are great running around in shorts and shirts, it’s different game when they start hitting.

I think this team still has a lot of holes. If they go out and get a third receiver, he still won’t be as good as Laurent Robinson was last year. He was Romo’s go-to guy, the guy that Romo depended on down the field. That’s going to kill them.

I think the lack of a pass rush is going to hurt them. DeMarcus Ware’s 30 this year. His best years are behind him and they didn’t get a second guy. I didn’t see them closing the gap on either the Eagles or the Giants, teams that they were 0-4 against last year. With a tougher schedule, I think this is a .500 team.



On Terrell Owens:

I guarantee you that his new agent, Jordan Woy, has already called the Cowboys saying, “Hey, we can be that third receiver.” Yeah, right.

We could go back in time, gather every super bowl winning pro bowl player that are in the hall of fame at their peak of playing and put them on this team right now and Gosselin would say we got worse and are a 5 and 10 team at best.

I think Goose would lick Laurent's taint. He is the leader of the Lets Overrate Laurent fan club who I'm sure will have nothing but scorn for Blaine Gabbert this season when he's under constant pressure because Laurent can't get open quickly.

Robinson was a product of Tony having to go to him due to no time for the other guys to get open. Tony Romo has gotten so many Wide Outs paid for his work he should take a 50% cut.

The eagles are a tough matchup for us right now but I don't see them as a beacon anymore. Flipping Tyron and free should help w/ their speed on the edges. Carter being a player would help in containing shady and if our cb's aren't ready for the eagles and giants games then why the f did they invest so much into them


The giants are similarly talented but have more SB's then we have playoff wins so they must be doing something right

I also like to think the skill sets of Austin,Bryant and Witten had something to do with it as well.
