ARLINGTON — When Giants cornerback Prince Amukamara was told Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray broke 100 yards during the Cowboys 31-21 win on Sunday, his eyes widened.

“He got a 100 this game?” Amukamara said. “He did break a lot. I felt like we stuffed him.”

Murray finished with 128 yards and a touchdown on 28 attempts. In this clash of division rivals the fact that New York was forced to defend the run so much was a change. Many Giants said after the game the Cowboys’ offense wasn’t much different other than its ability to run the ball.

The Cowboys rushed for 156 yards on Sunday. It was the most rushing yards they’ve had against the Giants since September 2009. But Amukamara wasn’t completely wrong. Eighty of Murray’s 128 yards came on five carries.

“We bottled him up, bottled him up and then he had five or six breakout runs, getting on the edge a whole lot,” Giants safety Antrel Rolle said. “We understand what kind of runner we’re dealing with. He’s a hard runner, he’s a patient runner and he’s doing his job so far.

“Their scheme is a lot better. They’re finding matchups and they’re attacking.”

With the running game in place, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo got Dez Bryant involved in the second half — Bryant finished with 151 yards after just 15 in the first half — found Gavin Escobar in the third quarter for the go-ahead touchdown, and then went back to the running game to grind out a late drive that set up the game-clinching field goal.

“They’ve always been tough to stop,” Giants coach Tom Coughlin said. “I just think their execution is very good and of course they’re running the ball, running the ball, and they have players that can make big plays.”
