Dallas Cowboys coach Jason Garrett, who is entering the final year of his contract, said there have not been any discussions about a new deal, Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas reports.

Garrett has a 29-27 record since taking over as the Cowboys' coach midway through the 2010 season, but he has posted three straight 8-8 marks, with Dallas losing its season finale in each of those seasons with the NFC East title on the line.

"My focus is really on being the best coach I can be each and every day, so that's what I think about and that's what I focus on," Garrett said.

Garrett said he does not feel any more pressure despite his contract situation.

"There is always a sense of urgency," Garrett said. "The best players, coaches and teams live with a sense of urgency every day, 365 days out of the year. That is the philosophy we have. That is the attitude we take."

Nor should they be talking about a new deal.

He's done nothing to give any indication he deserves a new deal.

BINGO... I'm glad that fans on this board are smart enough to see this

Make the playoffs, then maybe discuss a new deal.

No make playoffs. No be head coach in 2015.

but what if we are really, really close and a player dies or hurts his back or stubs his toe? Then, Garrett should get another chance!!!!

It's a process. He's building something here. An 8-8 team with cap problems and more holes than can be filled

I'll be so glad when I don't have to read comments like these from him anymore. He can talk a good game all day long but as soon as the ball is kicked off he's like a 90 year old man with Alzheimmers out there.

One more season of it...

Does it matter whether Jason was obviously directly responsible for Dallas making the playoffs? What if the defense carries the team - and the passing game is throwing 40 times a game, sacks are back up to 36, avg rush per game is 12, avg yards per carry is 5, time of possession is 25:00 per game average, red zone offense regresses, and the offense is only managing 2 TDs a game...but somehow, it's enough to get into the playoffs. Marinelli outcoaches the opposition's offense every week despite having to deal with constant 3 and outs by Err Coryell.

Would Jason still get the new contract and the credit for "the playoffs"?

Some people would credit all that to Jason Garrett's ability to silence a room in team meetings.

I don't care if half the team disappears in the Bermuda Triangle, if they don't make the playoffs there's no way in hell you can warrant brigning him back.

I guess its somewhat dependent on all the particulars. If they win a lousy division with a 9-7 record and get blasted in the wild card round, he'd need to be gone IMO.

If they have a solid year, win 10, 11 or 12 games and maybe win at least one playoff game in spite of the obvious idiocy of the owner/president & GM then I think regardless if they win because of offense, defense or special teams you think seriously about keeping him.
