FWST Blog: Young ahead of schedule in his rehab

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rookie Sam Young turned some heads in training camp. The Cowboys liked what they saw from the young offensive tackle and believe he can be a future starter for them.

But Young was injured in the Aug. 28 preseason game against the Texans, spraining the medial collateral ligament in his right knee. The prognosis was 3-4 weeks, and Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said this week that Young is close to returning to practice.

"It’s going really good," Young said Thursday. "I got out there [Wednesday] moving around. I’m going by what they’re telling me right now, and I’m just trying to get back as soon as possible."

Good to hear.

Of our reserve lineman, I think he and Costa have the best chance at either starting, or providing quality depth at some point down the line.

Glad he is getting healthy.

I saw something different in him, then everyone else has. I guess I will take a better look at him when the chance comes.

The sooner he gets back, the sooner we can cut Barron.

The problem with cutting Barron is that now you don't have a reserve LT. I like Sam Young, but I don't think he's a LT... And from what it looked like in the pre-season that Brewster wasn't a LT. So you either keep Barron on the roster (which if you cut him, he STILL gets his full salary) OR you end up moving Leonard Davis to LT, which I think he would do an OK job, but he really isn't a LT either.

They aren't left or right tackles. They're bums who take up space at the bottom of the roster.
