Goodell, Dallas judge may decide Brent's status

IRVING, Texas -- The Dallas Cowboys may not have to make a decision on the status of Josh Brent, with the NFL commissioner's office and a Dallas County judge lined up to make their decisions first.

Brent, charged with intoxication manslaughter after a December car accident that killed practice-squad linebacker Jerry Brown Jr., is scheduled for a September court date on that charge. But there is precedent with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on handing down one-year suspensions in a case like that – and that suspension now could come before the start of NFL training camps on the weekend of July 20.

Brent, a part-time starter along the defensive line before the accident, continues to maintain a connection with the Cowboys. That connection could conceivably continue even after a ruling from the commissioner and from the judge.

Hopefully he will and save the team from any more embarrassment in letting a guy piss in the face of their "accountability" mantra.
