Defense needs playmakers who can force turnovers; can Damien Wilson fill that role?
By Kate Hairopoulos
DAMIEN WILSON
Position: Linebacker
Size: 6-1, 242
Age when season starts: 23
College: Minnesota
Drafted: Fourth round, 127th pick overall, by Dallas in 2015
Experience: Entering second season
Contract status: Signed a four-year rookie deal worth $2.75 million that runs through 2018.
Last season
Wilson rarely played on defense, but proved to be a solid special teams player, making nine tackles. He appeared in all 16 games, yet played only 3 percent of the defensive snaps (32). All seven of his defensive tackles, his two tackles for loss and his one quarterback pressure, took place at New Orleans in the fourth game of the season.
This season's outlook
This is the time for Wilson to make a huge leap between years one and two and earn more playing time on a defense that would warmly welcome more playmakers and those able to force turnovers.
