IRVING – Dallas Cowboys defensive end Anthony Spencer has been cleared to start running and because of that, Spencer says he’s “more hopeful” he’ll be ready for the season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 8.

Spencer had left knee surgery on July 25 and hasn’t practiced since.

On Monday, the 29-year-old Pro Bowler said he has started doing “a little resistance running” and “a little bit of change of direction” work. He’s also been riding a stationary bike, lifting weights and working on an elliptical machine.

Spencer said the plan is for him to be going full speed by next week.

But will he be in game shape when the season starts?

“The only way you really get in game shape is by playing in games,” Spencer said. “I know that will be one of the hard things, but I haven’t really struggled with conditioning through my time of playing in the NFL. I work hard and I get conditioned pretty quickly.”

I don't care. He's playing for a contract from another team. I'm sure he'll get back when he can. We've been doing fine without him.

Yup, I'm looking forward to what Selvie can do. He should get plenty of snaps come opening night.

Another lazy shithead who gets healthy right after the rigors of camp and just in time for Game 1. What are the odds??!!

Ratliff, Spencer, Bernadeau, and Livings all need to go.

I'm trying not to get attached to Spencer.

Like the 17yo stray dog that wanders onto your property. It can stay for a while, but I ain't petting it.
